The Carol Burnett Show (1967)
What a shame...
They don't write or produce shows like this anymore. Sure, the formulaic shows like Seinfeld, Friends,Frazier are all very funny, but I grew up in the 60's with Carol & friends and that definitely shaped my sense of humor. If you can't laugh at these skits and the fact that they had so much fun cracking each other up, well....WHAT a shame!
I personally would like to see a network gamble 13 weeks (they've taken worse gambles!),and try the variety show again. I'm sure I'm not the only American who would race home to see it every Thursday night.
Police Academy (1984)
Lighten up, folks!
As a self-confessed movie freak...and also a writer/director, I have to go on record: This film is FUNNY. Times are different now and tastes change, but funny is funny. My good friend Leslie Easterbrook has made a career out of this one character...and she is quite wealthy to boot! After all,$75 million at the box office, plus untold millions in overseas and cable???C'mon, folks...LIGHTEN UP!!!
Killing the Badge (1999)
Oh, dear God...
Hold on....ok...thought I was gonna hurl again! This feature film, and I am being extremely nice, is very, very, very bad! I beseech thee to only view this as a learning tool on how NOT to make your first movie. I have it on good authority that the budget for this mindless, plotless, thoroughly confusing and meandering show was about $1,000,000. Well, I guess there really are suckers born every minute. Unfortunatley, in this case, they are called investors! Can we have some kind of watchdog group that makes sure money goes to viable, entertaining indie projects? Just food for thought. Nick Sturghill appears to be a wanna-be director who needs to learn some things. First, do you ever see the Coens or Speilberg in their own movies? No! And there's a good reason, Virginia...they can't act. And neither can director Sturghill. There is no grace in having your name plastered over every credit. Sure, Rodriguez did it, but he's talented. Please go back to doing whatever it is that you used to do, Nick. This film is an embarrassment.
Haven (1997)
A total triumph of the human spirit...
Too bad this film only has a theatrical release in Germany and select countries in Europe. This is a true gem of a story about triumph of the human spirit. Director Schaeffer shows us what caring for one another no matter what walk of life we are from. A story where corporate climber and professional Cassandra takes the time to sit and listen to a wise, now homeless gentlemen who really doesn't consider himself homeless. We need more stories like this! So if you're in Germany or Europe definitely go check this one out!!
