Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
A lot of fan service. But as it turns out, I am a fan
No Way Home was made for the fans, by the fans.
We asked for it, and we got it.
It the perfect crowd-pleaser and has a lot of fan-service.
I have a few problems with this film, especially with the tone, and how it pretty much doesn't have one.
But you know what? Who cares!
This movie will be remembered for the huge task it pulls off. Watch it as soon as you get the chance.
Loki: For All Time. Always. (2021)
Denied the catharsis
Look, there's no point in reading this review if you are not open to listening other opinions.
I had some issues with this episode:
1. The biggest issue for me is that it DENIES YOU THE MUCH NEEDED CATHARSIS. Imagine for a second that in Avengers Endgame, Thanos doesn't put up a fight and simply gets killed by a knife. Dying he whispers, "I didn't fight because this way, there will be repercussions in the future that you'll get to see them if you are still around a year later for future films." Wouldn't that be a bit disappointing? Sure, this episode makes you curious about the future MCU stuff including Loki season 2, but what about this episode itself?
2. Notice a PATTERN in this show? It seems that the main forte of the show is not good writing, but setting things up which makes it appear that it is well written. No, seriously, think about it. What I'm talking about is that throughout the entire middle section of any episode, things don't really go anywhere but then suddenly, something big happens in the final moments of the episode that SETS UP the next episode. That one big thing is kind of like the only thing that people have in their minds when rating the episodes or writing the reviews. It happens here too, but unfortunately, this was being built up as the crescendo of the series.
3. WEIGHTLESS. The atmosphere, the feelings, the so called 'philosophical debates' between the character, all felt weightless and weird to me. What kind of threshold did they cross in that scene? Why did he suddenly say that he doesn't know anything anymore? I don't know. Maybe it's just me.
FINAL REMARKS:
The final episode of a season is no time for MORE BUILD UP. A season finale must be satisfying to some degree at least and should be more than JUST a cliffhanger.
3 stars because at least they made me curious about the future episodes.
Loki: Glorious Purpose (2021)
Better than the entirety of WandaVision and Falcon
Now this is an episode that is filled with a lot of exposition. Exposition is usually boring, but they managed to make it fun.
Brilliant acting by both leads and interesting set-ups. Will have to see how good the pay-offs are going to be.
I have reduced one star just because there is one scene at around the middle of the runtime that really slows down the pace of the episode. Other than that, I loved this episode.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 9: The Marshal (2020)
This is NOT the way!
Look, I love The Mandalorian but this episode was bad.
It had no story.
It doesn't push the plot forward at all.
It doesn't develop the characters.
It was like that weird side quest you have in videogames that you need to complete for absolutely no reason at all in order to get back to the main game. Just like S1E4.
And this is not even the worst part. The worst part is that it takes 52 minutes to convey a non-existent story that should have taken no more than 15 minutes under the direction of people like Favreau.
I would have given it 2 or 3 stars because the visuals and music was amazing as always, but I don't like the bloated rating it has.
Tenet (2020)
Don't try to understand it. Feel it!
I saw Tenet in IMAX today.
I had the biggest smile on my face for 2.5 hours straight!
It was released in India today, months after the worldwide release, so maybe they have fixed the sound problem that everyone is talking about. It didn't have any such problems in India.
The plot was not at all hollow. It's just that people are focusing too much on the catchy inverse time stuff (which was mind blowing by the way). The plot was deep and it just requires a relaxed mind to catch up. The characters were as deep as they needed to be. This is not a character-driven movie. It is plot-driven. No complaints there. The music was amazing too!
To the haters, I say-
It is a bit heavy on the brain, but why do you have to understand every intricate plot detail then and there in the 2.5 hours runtime? There are too many plot points. Just focus on the important ones and give in. Sit back and feel the movie. The movie will automatically bring you to the edge of the seat.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience with this movie, and will definitely re-watch it!
