1982 (2019)
Slow and... Well nothing muh
First things, its slow. Not in a way that the movie pace is slow. But some scenes takes longer than they should. It might be the director's aim to make us savor the intensity of what was going on, but it came out to be boring.
Again with the director who probably tried to portray the atmosphere on that day, but some scneses came to be opposing to each other. Example the class scene at the end shows a messy classroom with falling chairs and tables, but we've seen before that the students exited the rooms in an orderly manner, after all it was a British school 😉
One more thing, though the movie is about love in the time of war, whether it is between two children or two teachers, but somehow the whole thing looked disattches from the main events. There was an Israeli invasion to Lebanon in the medist of a secterain war been raging for 7 years, but somehow the students and teachers looked as if they are in a school outside of mentioned world.
Ramy (2019)
The show is a freak
Do you know the story of The Stone Soup? This show is a stone soup, mixing multiples things of social issues, plots, jokes, events, phrases, characters...etc in an attempt to create comedy, but it just doesn't work. Mixing all this doesn't create a style, but rather it creates a style-less or flavorless show.
It should be about a Muslim guy living in US, and the challenges it brings especially in a post Sep.11 world. But instead of getting a humorous, or maybe a dark comedy, which makes us laugh beside shedding light on a social issue represented by the challenges Muslims/Arabs faced and still facing in the American society.
But what do we get instead? We get one hell of a pervert dishonest lusty character (Ramy), A dysfunctional family, where the sister, though adult enough is like a teenager, the mother who looks more like a grandma, is apparently also lusty (We know at least where Ramy got it from) and searching for some affair, then her character changes to be more of a crazy one with foul mouth. The uncle is a huge pervert, hitting on his niece. The father is a boring character who lost his job and stays like that for the rest of the 3 seasons.
The interactions are fake, the events are too much, the relations between the family members themselves and between them and others are exaggerated and unreal...
The show keeps trying to be funny, especially by exaggerating everything, but somehow you end up staring at the screen wondering, feeling disgusted most of the times.
Nope (2022)
You don't need to watch this movie
I was thinking for some time if I wanna write a review for this movie. I feel like writing about a show when its either so good or so bad. For me this movie goes under the "so bad" part, actually the correct category would be the "so annoying" one, and that's why i felt hesitant to review it. I just didnt want to remember it and count the many annoying aspects about it, but lets try:
First, the words horror and thriller in the genre description are too much for this movie. Even sci fi shouldnt be there. Now what, if there is some alien in the movie it becomes science or science fiction?!
Second, Keke Palmer was too much. Too dramatic, too much shouting, too much crying, too much showing Jesus Lizard signs (whatever that is).. Really annoying.
Third, and on the opposite extreme of his sister, OJ (Daniel Kaluuya character) was too, lets say chill. To be clear, its a negative thing here. He was too careless like high or something. Keeps staring for long when the world is tumbling apart. Another annoying thing.
Fourth, what the hell was this alien ship. A piece of cloth?! First it comes like a vacuum cleaner sucking up everything, then throwing back the metal parts like keys and coins hat for some reason fall on Earth like bullets or some meteorites, though they fall from couple kilometers above.
Honestly the whole thing about the alien was so bad. It can shut down the electromagnetic field, it can control a grasshopper to sit on a camera blocking the view, it has a problem when looked in the eye!!?? Another annoying thing.
Fifth, what about the monkey and the old sitcom? Monkey got haunted? So this alien can control animals? Also the standing shoe, what's going on here? Are they symbols or references to something in the movie or outside the movie that we should know, or the director thinks that we already know?!
I will stop here, though i can carry on, but I think this is enough. Just one more thing, the movie is so damn long.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Partings (2022)
Not slow and steady but, BORING!
Boring. This is the key word.
Not "slow but going steady" as they like to describe it, because their ego prevents them from saying the truth. Its just boring with wooden acting.
Galadriel is like a robot. Elrond looks funny and weird. Harfoots are.. Well no comment.
The episodes are so long, and nothing happens, and every time they end the episode with some epic scene suitable for big movies.
No characters there whom one can interact with either positively or negatively.
A white king (of Numinor) who have a black daughter. A black Harfoot who have a redhead daughter.
The whole show is a big mess.
House of the Dragon: We Light the Way (2022)
Still missing alot
I don't know how to start, its like a big production/budget was handled to amateurs to execute it. There is no creativity, no mystery, no magic. One can be watching and doing something else, just looking at events unfold with no real attaatchment. Even the characters (except for Daemon) are just actors with fancy costumes. No charisma or attachment towards them.
They try to make it like GoT in sudden deaths, or deaths during a wedding, but for some reason its not working. Oh and why they use the GoT intro music again for this show?! Couldnt they come up with another intro specially for HotD?!
Another thing, where are the Starks and the North? Why they are not mentioned? And why the Velaroyns with their black skin and weird/funny white hair, didn't appear in GoT? They got extinct?
The whole thing looks like a medieval thing and not the magical mysterious world of GoT.
The Capture: The Flip (2022)
Ruined it all
The finale of season two ruined two seasons of a realistic drama. For the sake of making a surprising twist and have some kind of Hollywood ending, the producers of the show created a big twist, but I believe they flushed the beautiful realism and darkness of the show down the toilet.
I will count the points that made this twist somehow impossible to happen:
1. Gemma and Frank are professionals, they won't just argue in the middle of such operation about faking the cancer photos.
2. Carey, with a slight press on one of the agents fingers, managed to change the script and insert new one. Then they couldn't change it again??
3. They couldn't contact Khadija! And even if she was complicit with Carey, but Frank couldn't call his guys to stop her??
4. Frank became like a kid and didn't wanna arrest Carey just because he is angry with Gemma?!
5. And finally how did Carey know that the dr will call Frank, and He and Gemma will be arguing, so she can with one small press ruin the whole operation!? She even didn't edit the script that Turner will speak thus uncovering correction. All she had to do was press on the agent's finger so to get his finger print authorization!
That was silly and ruined the whole show.
The Old Man: I (2022)
The dog scenes! Plz!
First off, Jeff Bridges acting is always cool and enjoyable to watch. Plus, the story/plot, though still a bit mysterious and probably classical, but it still catches you.
Now about dog scenes. There are 3 dog scenes that looked so silly, especially for someone who has a dog, let alone a trained one, oh an let alone that Jeff Bridges character has two highly trained dogs.
So the first scene is when Bridge's character is sleeping, dogs sleeping beside him, and apparently there is an intruder in the house. The dogs didn't feel it, which is so weird, instead the sleeping Jeff Bridges wakes up after the intruder hit some empty cans trap, Bridges already set.
Second scene, when Bridges is searching for the intruder in his dark house (its night time), the dogs must be there, doing nothing, until the intruder comes into the light behind Bridges', here we see th3 dogs attacking him. I mean dogs use their nose/sense of smell for almost everything. First they didn't feel.the intruder, and now could sniff him until he was close enough and in the dim light?!
3rd, the long slow boring fight scene in the end. Bridges is off road, escaping from FBI, he open his back door letting the dogs out, then he engages with his retriever (not a dog, but a man sent to retrieve him) for about 5 minutes or so and no sign of the dogs. At the end, he whistles and they come running from hundreds of meters away, just to find Bridges already forced into the car, and drove away.
I have a dog, a spoiled retriever, and if he sniffs the neigbor close to the door at night, he goes barking like crazy. Two super trained dogs with a retired agent, couldn't feel and later sniff and find the intruder??!! That actually ruined a big part of the first episode for me.
The Man in the High Castle: The Illustrated Woman (2015)
In general good, except few annoying issues
After 3 episodes, the visuals still great. They manage to give the look of 60s America with the dark shadow of tyranny over it. But then come those huge buildings of the Nazi HQ and Nazi embassy which look bit too much. They are so huge they kimd of ruin the consistent look of the city. Like those huge building of Star Wars Coruscant.
Then there are some silly scenes that ruin the sense of realism or factualism the viewer supposedly emerged in. For example when the line faced man struggles to throw Juliana off of the bridge, but then she with a tiny unclear push makes him flying over the fence and falling down under the dam. Or when Juliana and Joe coming back to the city and the Marshal's car suddenly appear infront of them! I mean how did he know they are coming, he was just having those pork chops.
Such small details makes you feel like come on.. You don't really to put such cheap scenes that ruins the mood.
The Walking Dead: Diverged (2021)
Something wrong with the show
I'm sure one can make a way better episode and still follow Covid regulations. I remember there were scenes of Michone alone dragging the 2 walkers and it was cool. So its not Covid, something happened to the show.
Boardwalk Empire: To the Lost (2011)
Good but such shocking ending is not needed.
Some serieses or serieses' finales try to come up with some shocking scene just to create some excitement or ratings and get audience to talk about it. Here killing Jimmy was something of that sort. It wasn't needed, not just because Jimmy is a key character and part of the whole thing, but also because its not Nucky's character or way. Nucky is man who makes people around him happy, more like a business man, he hits when he needs to. So killing Jimmy was more like an act of revenge which is more like Italian Mafia style and not the Nicky's. Probably its Scorsese's and Van Patten's area of play, where we can see their style all over the show, mixing old Italian movies/serieses with Boardwalk Empire. Its cool, but don't overdo it.
Sense8: Amor Vincit Omnia (2018)
Ratings became useless
The 9 stars rating of this episode shows that the rating thing became so fake and silly. Who in their good sense give such episode more than 3, or even 2 stars. Its a mess of an episode, let alone a finale. It was mashed u (after a year from the rest of S02 BTW) like a news report when the editor tells you, you've got 5 minutes to give me something. Many plot holes and in consistencies and a sense of being lost was there all the time. I don't know how people give 9 stars, probably in this case many of them were from LGBT community or supporters who just wanted to do some propaganda to the show, or maybe some fanatics of the show who couldn't accept that the last episode was a big mess, so they went like: Wow everything is awesome about this show...
