Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (2021)
Interesting watch!
I'm honestly surprised I've never heard of this serial killer together! This docuseries is much more focused on the investigation rather than the perp. I really enjoyed this series although it did feel drawn out at points. Would've like if the last episode gave more info/background about Richard, but the focus on the families/victims is also extremely important.
QI (2003)
Alan Davies <3
I was slow to warm to this show originally but grew to absolutely fall in love. Some episodes are better than others, largely due to the dynamic between the panelists. Stephen & Sandy are wonderful in their own ways, and to compare the two is unfair. Regardless, the star of the show for me is Alan. He is hilarious and seems like a genuinely kind person. The information on the show is truly quite interesting ;) Overall, this show just makes me smile and sometimes even laugh until my stomach hurts. Some references about British culture I don't get, but it provides the opportunity to research and learn on my own! If you aren't already, watch with subtitles! The more you watch, the more the inside jokes of the show make you feel like a part of the QI crew.
Virgin River (2019)
Guilty pleasure
I can't explain how I even ended up watching this show. It's not my normal taste at ALL. However, I did enjoy the mystery of it all. Plus who doesn't love a little romance? Hope's character and acting is trash - would probably be a better show without her. Tons of Hallmark actors but surprisingly addictive. It exceeded my expectations and is definitely a guilty pleasure.
Emily in Paris (2020)
I'll take wine with this cheese
I honestly enjoyed this as a lighthearted, cheesy show. It's like Hallmark after sundown (not HBO) for YA. If you're super into technical aspects of television, this is not the show for you. It's unrealistic, mids acting, and just silly. Something about it though is just pleasant and easy to watch.
Holidate (2020)
Amusing but nothing to write home about
Super amusing at times but overall cheesy and not a quality film. It's like a millennial hallmark movie.
Fleabag (2016)
Chefs kiss
The low reviews cut me to my core because this show is EVERYTHING. It made me laugh out loud, cry in sorrow, and all the emotions in between. It's a dark comedy but the brilliance in the wit and writing is simply flawless.
The War with Grandpa (2020)
Probably great for kids
Watched with adult family. Not the worst movie I've ever seen but very cheesy and forgettable. It's sweet and emotional at times but kind of wish I'd not wasted the time.
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
Top tier classic
The beginning of this show is impeccable, just truly hooks you. My only critique is that the constant plot circling makes some points drawn out and frustrating. It was likely designed that way but gosh so irritating as a viewer. All around though one of the best shows in general I've watched and a top notch anime!
Boku dake ga inai machi (2016)
Start your anime journey here!!
A truly fantastic show that I would gladly rewatch. It was suspenseful yet warm and emotional. It's eerie and interesting. I'm embarrassed by how fast I binged it. Seriously start here if you're new to anime or love a murder mystery!!
The Undoing (2020)
Mixed emotions
I just can't pin down how I feel about this show. At some times I loved it and others I hated it. Several episodes were unnecessary and drawn out. I saw other reviews complaining about red herrings and simplistic ending, yet I can't help but think the plot actually portrays a realistic motive and suspect instead of wild goose chases seen in other crime shows. There are definite plot holes that are apparent and annoying but eh overall okay watch. I won't rewatch but it's not a terrible show either.
Murder on Middle Beach (2020)
Not classic true crime
Depends on what you're looking for. As a true crime lover, I tend to want answers of substantial investigation. This doc doesn't provide either. However, I still found it an interesting watch. It left me with more questions than answers, but the exploration of self by the creator was intriguing and emotional.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Just do it
Seriously one of the best shows I've watched in a along time. The plot line is intriguing. There's romance, comedy, rivalry, competition, self-discovery. It's just magnificent. Yes, I did have to learn how to play chess after watching but hey now I have a new hobby!
True Detective (2014)
Watch all of them!
Season one was gripping and enthralling. Season two was a bit more confusing and drawn out. Season three was emotional and satisfying.
All the seasons were good and unique in their own way. My ranking is S1, S3, S2, however I think 1 and 3 shine in different ways. Definitely worth the watch!!
