Dune: Part Two (2024)
I'ts a good movie, not great
Visually amazing, and the story is also well put together not deviating much from the original 1984. Adaptation.
But the positives end there, the character development is very thin in my opinion just showing how the older cast of actors from the part one carried the story and made me involved in the characters much more than. Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa and more screen time of Stellan Skarsgård's baron Vladimir Harkonnen were better balanced in my opinion than part two. It shows lack of experience of the younger actors.
Part two revolves mostly about Paul and Chani, and it feels like teen love drama at moments and not a epic masterpiece of storytelling. It feels like other characters are props in a story of Paul, not story about Dune. Even the worms are just props and used as cross desert hauling trucks, no mystery or explanation of how they are connect to the spice, and no talk about how important the spice really is to the Universe. Feels rushed, the first part was much more balanced and captivating.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
Wow, this is so bad.
What did I just watch? This is a season finale and I was so bored after 20 minutes I started cleaning my apartment.
When there was some action or screaming I started watching again. They taped a guy to a chair, made him listen screams and went for a coffee, who wrote this? People don't behave like this, it's like AI generated human behavior. Even worse, AI would make better script and dialog probably.
And the ending and explanation was so bizarre I was laughing like it's a comedy show. NOBODY behave like this, this is not human behavior. From the sublime to the ridiculous there is but one step but this season is million miles away from sublime. Season 2. Looks like a masterpiece to this.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 1 (2024)
For whom is this?
I just watched the first episode, and I'm not sure what I just watched. It's way too political and preachy while not really doing its job-entertaining. There is an angry girl boss cop, a smart woman detective boss, an unhinged drunk woman driving and crashing, and teen girls who are lesbians. Why? Just entertain us; that's all you need to do. Create an story and build from that. This is all over the place.
The chief detective, played by Jodie Foster, doesn't know who the missing people are and what they do? In a small town, really? An angry woman cop who holds a man in an armbar with one hand, really? I trained in martial arts for years, and I would not do that.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to continue watching; probably, it's going to get way more ridiculous.
Hold the Dark (2018)
More of an art project than an actual movie
If one attempts to decipher cryptic and mysterious messages, many dialogues may appear nonsensical. While actors exhibits impressive talent to keep you invested in watching the movie, a poorly crafted script limits their potential.
It extends beyond mere plot holes, the characters though not necessarily dislikable, lack relatability. Their motivations and actions remain unclear, as if some kind of artsy fictional figures were teleported into real-life scenarios.
The dialogue feels out of sync, and the characters' decisions are challenging to comprehend. The backstory leading to these events is flawed and not clear.
The Whale (2022)
I usually don't agree with the critics but lacks the deepth
I think this movie has quite higher rating with the audience rather than with the critics.
I usually don't agree with the critics but in this case I don't see why this should be rated more than 6 or 6.5 at best, it's not a bad movie but nothing great also.
It's soda pop consumable movie loaded with heavy topic ( no pun intended ) like obesity, god, religion, family, betrayal, and it barely scratches the surface of deeper emotions regarding all of these.
It's more like a school drama or a sitcom with one room where actors come for their scene and leave. No real character development.
I was hoping this to be more of a bold statement with deep message at the end and not a consumable product with cheesy scenes.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Slow burner at best
This episode was a huge change compered to the pace of first two episodes, much less action focusing more on a side story of two lovers that reminded me more of some episodes of walking dead in later seasons than game based action series.
That's one of the reason why I gave up on the walking dead series and I'm afraid this is the direction this series is also going, many side plots, side characters and dead ends with endless dialogs.
I'm hoping for next episode to be more action packed and entertaining, focused on the main story and I really don't care about what orientation main characters or side characters are.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Udûn (2022)
A couple of nice scenes but not epic
For my subjective taste this episode misses the epic feeling I got when watching original LOTR. Everything feels small or cheap, the orcs are a couple of hundreds at best, the people defending the village are a handful, riders are also a couple of hundreds I think.
The soldiers armors and weapons are cheap looking fabric and some kind of plastic and paint. The village is tiny! Where is the money intended for this series, I don't understand. It feels more like Xena or Hercules TV series and not an epic show to be remembered.
I remember the Gandalf scene of the original movie where he rides over a hill with an army of thousands riders into huge army of orcs with pikes. That felt epic and truly unique for it's time. And that was more than 15 years ago where the CGI was not even close to what we have today.
Prey (2022)
Mediocre action flick, not entertaining
I remember as a boy I tethered an arrow to a rope and put the nail as a tip. The result was when the arrow missed the target it catapulted back at me with it's heaviest part first and that was the nail tip. Fortunately it missed my head but hit my brothers heel. My father run quickly to my brother and passing by gave me slap in the face so strong I could see all of the stars in the galaxy :). That was fun and makes me laugh every time.
So back to the movie. It's a silly mediocre action flic that takes itself way to seriously and "try to be important" like the main character of the movie but fails in doing so. Movies and especially action movies are all about fun and not about spreading political agendas. I just want to be entrained and like Maximus once asked "Are you entertained, are you entertained?". Not really.
The Little Things (2021)
Jared Leto delivers good wacky weirdo vibe...but that's it.
It's not the little things where this movie falls short, actually there are many big things.
The girl that stops the car on the highway to hide from the killer. Why? The car was fine, what was the reason to get out of car and risk death?
Rami Malek as detective Baxter digs the location for graves while constantly exposing his holstered gun to serial killer walking around him, really? A detective would do that? Or a regular person? Sorry but many times his acting was not done convincingly.
Denzel as "Deke" has his own method working crime scenes. What is this method? Taking a room in shady hotel and looking at victim pictures? That's not a method. That's just an shame driven old man.
Also Denzel is called a "Legend", why is that? What did he do, and why does it matter now?
...there are many pointless references and dialogues where I found my myself wondering why did they say these strange "scripted" lines. Many are comparing "Seven" to this movie but this is not "Seven", it's a bunch of punchlines and references glued together into some kind of script.
I think the camera was actually pretty good and Jared Leto delivers good wacky weirdo vibe. Maybe that's because he is a wacky weirdo.
But good camera and one interesting character could not save this movie unfortunately.
It's a shame actually, this could be a great movie not an average one...
