Monsieur Spade (2024)
Great acting...but boring
Flashbacks, for me, confusing. Way too much Spade philosophy. One minute he's being rescued by bazillion heiress and the next scene he's mourning HER death while enjoying the spoils of what comes from his marriage to her. Really?, next scene. Zero action and it's pretty darn predictable. Biggest moment was at the end of episode 1, which I don't think anyone saw coming. I am waiting for Spade to do some sleuthing but he seems content on reminding everyone of his worldly wisdom and his vocal threat of being a tough guy. It is a chore to follow the fragmented continuity. Only 3 episodes in so I'm committed.
Double Blind (2018)
Has a score because there was a good story
I am three quarters into this movie wishing I just had the book to read.
Let's talk what's palatable: Action scenes and special effects. Actually liked the black and white filming...because in color more flaws would have stood out. Continuity was solid. Story was interesting enough to watch until the end. Screenplay wasn't as corny as it could have been.
The bad: Actors and their characters, just plain rock bottom. I wanted to kill the female agent myself...she was an alien, devoid of human qualities. The score was stolen from a funeral home parlor. The killer was NOT believable...at all...I'm reminded of a McDonalds manager.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Symbolism at its best
The TreeHuggers have come out and made a comedy. Always last to the party, it took me half the movie to see that Comet = Climate Change. The screenplay was quite good and found myself laughing out loud a lot. Our hero's are scientists...who follow the science! Not quite today's reality. The satire on media, meant to slap the conservative crowd, is an accurate depiction of CNN and MSNBC. Great characters (Leo, Streep and Hill are excellent) and very entertaining I will say...I'm just not so sure the writers know they ultimately mocked the group they meant to sensationalize.
