Fear of Rain (2021)
Pretty Good
I went on IMDb to look for Katherine Heigl movies and this one came up yet I thought to myself has she ever been in a horror film? Well she was in Unforgettable but no not really. So I watched this and thought it was pretty good. The main role is filled in by Madison Iseman and she succeeds with flying colours. Her character has schizophrenia and is scared of what's real or just her head meaning that she is always on edge which again she is more than capable of and I was really surprised. Now the real draw of this movie was Katherine Heigl and she is really good in this movie as the mother, and I mean really good. Although I wish she had a little more screen time. The actor who plays the dad in this movie is excellent. His character is fed up with Iseman's character and what she's saying (Won't spoil it). So this movie has a good cast what about the plot? This movie plays on the thought of what is real or fake in this movie yet the plot can seem lame but the actors performances make up for it.
This is a semi spoiler about the movie so click off now if you don't want it ruined. This movie has a twist towards the final act however it isn't sudden or unnecessary, it adds emotional weight to the movie and grounds the characters more.
So what are my final thoughts on this movie? Its pretty good especially for a lockdown watch. Its well made has a fantastic cast and a solid plot. Also the chemistry between the characters feels genuine which is a big part of this movie with it being about a family.
Life as We Know It (2010)
Hit me on a level I didn't expect
This movie recently caught my eye on Netflix so one night I decided to watch it and idk why but it was both comedic yet pulled my heart strings. But firstly the casting for this movie is phenomenal. I've always had a soft spot for Katherine Heigl movies and yet again she smashes it out the park with her character. She plays her complex yet simple at the same time: she is funny, bubbly and goofy but also caring and emotional. A big surprise for me in this movie is Josh Duhamel. I always remembered him as Lennox from Transformers but he's actually really funny in this movie and like Heigl's character he has an emotional side that shows in some scenes and hits you hard.
Anyway Lets get onto the plot.. Its told well and makes complete sense. It all revolves around the two main characters (Heigl and Duhamel) adopting a baby girl after her parents/main characters best friends die in a car accident. And I will admit some scenes made me laugh and one scene in particular made me cry.. which is unusual for me so it definitely pulled my heart strings.
My final thought ]s on this movie are go and watch it. Its funny yet deep and is definitely given too much stick by critics and people alike. Good plot, characters and chemistry.
Killers (2010)
Better than people make it out to be
So for context I've been on a Katherine Heigl binge lately and this is one of the movies that came up. I watched it and for the most part enjoyed it. What can I say it was pretty good, the plot knew what it was doing and I understood it, the characters were played well and the chemistry between them was fantastic. I will admit I have never seen Ashton Kutcher in a movie except Open Season (Remember that movie?) and I thought he good a great job as a ex 'agent'. Katherine Heigl's character is fun and bubbly an not to the point where its annoying but just enough. She also comes across as quite humorous in this movie. Their chemistry is good and feels genuine when they are on screen especially in panicked situations. Also Magnum P.I himself is in this film and although is character is basic and has been done many times before in movies as a dad who doesn't like/ trust their daughters husband yet this one puts a spin on it. Now this movie is a comedy however its not laugh out loud funny, its more mellow and makes you smile or laugh a little.
But my final thoughts on this movie is that it's well made and good fun... The performances are on point and the plot is easy to follow so If you've got spare time and are bored I'd suggest giving this a watch. Not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Unforgettable (2017)
Not the greatest
I stumbled across this movie whilst looking for anything to watch during lockdown and for some reason it caught my eye. Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl in a movie together... This could work
Does it? Well a little. Dawson is trying her hardest to carry this movie as the main role and she performs better than I intentionally thought although her character feels imbalanced with Heigl's. Now I like Katherine Heigl a lot and some of her work is brilliant (Knocked up, Firefly Lane and The Ugly truth) Yet her how she is portrayed in this movie feels as if the studio are biased towards giving her more screen time and development. Yet she does play her character really well. Even though we know more about her character than Dawson's character when were supposed to be rooting for her (Dawson). Also for the record Rosario Dawson is not a good damsel in distress character.. She deserves far better than that. The husband character played by Geoff Stults (Yea I don't know who he is either) is a massive idiot to what's going on around him to the extent where It's frustrating to watch him on screen. The story is a mediocre plot of an evil ex trying to ruin the new girl's life...Nothing new.
Fun fact: Warner Bros made this movie.. So why does it feel like a direct to DVD movie? Come on WB you've got to invest money to make money.
My final thoughts are if you got nothing better to do and wanna watch something a little entertaining then give this a watch its very mediocre which is a shame since its got actually good actresses like Heigl and Dawson in it.
