Abel's Island (1988)
A quiet but engrossing film-Another William Steig masterpiece
I looked up "CDB!"("See the Bee"), a book I remember from my elementary
school gifted class, and I found out the author was William Steig. You can
Imagine my surprise when I found he also wrote and illustrated Abel's
Island, I also remembered from my childhood, as well as the children's book
"Shrek"!? which the recently released film is based on. Anyway, I recommend
this film (which I saw on PBS's Long ago and Far Away years ago-this is
totally nostalgic for me) It is a quiet but interesting film exploring a
sort of bitter sweet Robinson Coruso-like fantasy. Good for adults and
children as are all of Steig's works. Also check out the books "CDB"- a book
of word puzzles using single letters and numbers, and also the book and
movie "Shrek". This guy's a super writer.
