The Telephone (1988)
Whoopi's Role Worse Than Middle Schooler
It's literally minutes upon minutes upon minutes of Whoopi being a foolish and horribly stereotypically racist in her apartment, playing an actor who couldn't land a role even if she paid the studio's budget four times over. Love Whoopi. She should never have done this movie. What an embarrassment.
Ideal Home (2018)
Beautiful Set Design, Location, & Story
Erasmus is a little too campy for my liking; too Albert & Agador. Hollywood seems addicted to have a stereotypical man on screen or none at all. When will we get our own Sleepless In Seattle or The Holiday?
Anyway, I am only twenty minutes into Ideal Home and I'm hooked. The set design is gorgeous. The setting is beautiful, somewhere I rarely see in movies. Where are we? New Mexico? Nevada?
Daddy's buns and Grammpy's husband.... well, no spoilers now. Great movie. I want more. Some with less flaming comedy.
Antlers (2021)
Boring
Boring. I was anticipating this movie for a while. Finally got to see it. Had no idea what the father was doing in at the mines. Evidently was packing up a meth lab? Was quite boring. Didn't give enough away throughout the film. Even in the last 20 minutes I was not satisfied I knew the villain. Producer took the cheap route by developing the concept of an antagonist rather than manifesting much of one. Raw gore doesn't make a good horror story.
LED police lights are damaging enough in real life, I don't want to pay to go watch them for 15 minutes. Movies shouldn't use them.
I'll never watch this movie again. The movie poster is the only good thing about the entire project.
The Lazarus Effect (2015)
Definitely Blumhouse
Definitely a Blumhouse film. A reviewer writes "I'm not sure why the screenplay would introduce such good idea but then not do anything with them.." It's because it's Blumhouse. They do this with all their films. Either the whole film is an embarassment or the writing is half-baked; excellent ideas with predictable and canned development. Did not spend enough time developing what was happening to Zoe. Killing everyone like that was so boring. Felt like I was rushed through to get in and out.
