American Underdog (2021)
Wasn't expecting this
Wow wasn't expecting this movie, Levi was perfect in this. Great movie about true events and told without any nonsense or waste of time. The whole family really enjoyed it and that's rare these days. I don't normally write reviews but when something like this pops up that isn't politicaly preachy and tells people to stick to their commitments then iv gotta give it a big thumbs up. You don't need to worry love football at all to get this movie either. Well done everyone involved and good to see the ratings reflecting how I felt about this great movie. Iv apparently got to keep writing to make up the word count to submit this review so please bear with me. Shake and bake everyone, shake and bake.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Forget the Einstein string therosists in the comments
Lighten up people, where in the title does this movie tell you that its a movie about theoretical science and quantum theory? Go watch a Christopher Nolan movie if you need your Stephen Hawking criteria checked, this is just a solid, funny, dark action sci fi. Pratt nailed it as usual and the visual effects are epic. Give it a watch and don't take yrelf so seriously..
Hook (1991)
Wildly underrated
This was a child hood favourite for me. My children now love it and I came here to see who wrote the music and saw its low score!? I can only imagine some spoilt teeny boppers have rated this because it isn't full of tik toc references or something. Come on people, give this classic and our lost legend Robin Williams the rating it's worthy of. Nothing short of a ten. RUU FII OOOOOOOOHHHH.
The Hunt (2020)
the movie for this of us in the middle of politics
This was super funny, don't take it seriously just like it doesn't take itself seriously and you'll have a good time. If this triggered you than I'm afraid you are part of the problem.
Longmire (2012)
everything opposite of woke, and look at the ratings
Man this show is good, iv watched it through twice now. Casting is spot on, location is beautiful and the writing is believable, respectable and inclusive without being forced and woke which is a Hollywood miracle. Big respect for our Aussie brother Robert Taylor for doing us proud, great acting and perfect for the role role of the introspective quiet hero Walt.
Another Life (2019)
damn it, I really wanted this to be good
Firstly, lol at the Latino chick yelling F#$k at everyone every line she has. The fact that we are to believe this is the group of humans we would send on a mission like this in space is an insult to every scientist and intelligent person who has ever dedicated their life to being an astronaut. The cringe is real with this show, the captain is not a captain, there is no respect for authority or commands or processes or team work or civil conversation, the whole thing is just days of our lives meets lost in space. Loved the main actress in her role in Longmire so this was really hard to see her acting in this series. She looks like she doesn't want to be there, if I was having to read those lines I wouldn't either.
Knock Knock (2015)
The only blemish on Keanu
I don't even want to waste my time writing a review for this rubbish. Roth is just a weird dude in not a cool edgy way and his movies show it. Im now certain that Tarentino has carried this guy through his career. Huge fan of Keanu and its such a shame he has this trash to his name now. This is just a typical annoying horror that makes you wonder why any of the characters would do any of the things they idiotically do. Roth must think we are all idiots who don't think and just want a spoon fed story written by a creepy kindergartner. Do not waste any of yr time on this garbage.
Greyhound (2020)
we should never stop telling these stories
Thankyou Mr Hanks from devoting so much time ensuring the bravery and sacrifice of these men is never forgotten. This was nail-biting from the start to finish. Loved it.
Sausage Party (2016)
"edgy" comedians trying to out swear eachother
I normally wouldn't even notice profanity or bad language in movies, there a place for it in story telling, showing emotion or even comedic purposes but this was just weird. It was like they ran weren't confident in the jokes standing on their own merit so bolstered them with just the most over the top poor language iv heard since listening in on truckers talking over the uhf. It just made the whole thing weird and try hardish. Iv never really found seth rogan funny so maybe it's my biased opinion of him but I just thought the movie missed on a topic that had potential.
Norsemen (2016)
refreshing dumb humour
Now that I think Hollywood has officially killed itself from going full woke I find myself looking into areas for viewing material I wouldn't normally go, and I been pleasantly surprised. Some people iv read hear didn't appreciate the style of humour, and I can tell they want that lame modern snl style humour that suits their political leaning rather than watching something that doesn't take itself seriously and is just paying out how ludicrous hystory was. Norsemen does all this plus great acting, sets and costuming. Don't listen to the uppity numptys, give it a try, you'll find yrself laughing out loud.
Signs (2002)
Everything happens for a reason
I get some of the people not liking this movie and I gather it grates against them maybe because it's an alien movie but doesn't dive deep into the science because it's more about the story and the characters and the narrative. I gather that the non religious might find this move grates against because it's narrative flows around a man and his faith and that all things happen for a reason. But I have always found this movie refreshing, funny, dramatic, scary and perfect at telling a story that is outside of the usual boring Hollywood script. It's it's on thing, the cinematography is perfect, the characters and casting is perfect and a simple fact for me when I find myself watching the same movie again once or twice a year is that's the purest form of good story telling. It makes you come back again and again. Maybe you don't believe everything happens for a reason, maybe you believe the world is chaos but you would be remiss to not see this Shyamalan tale.
Black Summer (2019)
illogical unrealistic psychopaths
Season one was OK but a bit forgettable, season two had some great cinematography but there was too much other rubbish that ruined it for me.
The corny chapter titles every 5 minutes became infuriating but were obviously needed to try and help stick everything together because for some reason the directors needlessly jumped forward and backward in time every 5 minutes. Some of the long single shot cuts where we'll done but again ruined by horrible story telling. Apparently no one knows about the head shot rule for killing zombies?? Leaving doors open unnecessarily is a thing.. the protagonist mother and daughter are now just killing anyone and aren't likeable at all, and that's fine for a gritty zombie movie... if the actions of the characters were true to human character.
I really wanted to like this but it was just more frustrating than anything.
Fargo (2014)
Film is dead, we are in the age of the TV series.
Iv written a review like this before about the film Four Brothers. If I find myself watching it again every 12 months or so you know it's a cracker. Fargo is a cracker, the editing is so well done, the characters and cast is THE BEST iv seen in a TV series. The soundtrack is so eclectic but perfect I even have it saved on my Spotify play list. I'm form Australia so we don't get much snow here so I find the geography and setting of the entire series so interesting and beautiful, harsh but beautiful. On the Australian topic big shout out to my Aussie brother Angus Sampson who plays Bear in season 2.
I don't say this lightly but this is up there with Band of Brothers or West world season 1.
Four Brothers (2005)
Motor City Masterpiece
I'm a simple man, if I find myself hitting play on a movie at least twice a year than I know it has to be at least a 10.
Casting: Andre 3000 can shake a poleroid AND act! Love him in this as annoying as his character decisions can be. Marky Mark is tough but lovable and holds the patriarch of the family role realy believably. I won't mention everyone but the casting director needs a pat on the back because they nailed it!
Soundtrack: I was going to start with soundtrack because it's that good but I held back. I'm a motown man already but the soundtrack fits this film like a glove.
Story: gritty, funny, emotional and relevant. It always stays on track, solid character development for the amount of characters and time in the film. And who doesn't like a film where the good guys give it as best as they take it.
Other: I'm not a big fan of films nowdays getting extra woke trying to fit some stupid Hollywood agenda or narrative of diversity and so on but this movie made in 2005 preached all these things and ticked the boxes without being preachy, woke or forced. This film is proof that colour didn't even need to be mentioned and it's doesn't even matter that these four guys were brothers with he same equality and start in life regardless the colour of their skin. This film did it first! To the point that iv watched Four Brothers yearly for almost 16yrs and only now with how crap Hollywood is going do I appreciate this movie for what it was. This movie will forever be a time stamp in American culture and needs greater recognition than the current 6.5 rating.
Give this a watch, you won't regret it.
Army of the Dead (2021)
A movie for zombies
When you find yourself cheering for the zombies to kill off the characters I think you have a problem. None of the characters are likeable except maybe the German safe cracker and the daughter is unintentionally maybe the biggest villan in the movie! The plot holes are as numerous as the amount of headshots even the noob shooters seem to land against hoards of running and dodging undead. So your telling us Tanakas cash in that vault wasn't insured and why doesn't he know the safe codes to his own vault? Why are some zombies eyes and brains blue? We know a bit about zombie king but zombie queen? Zero context, why does she run and move different to the rest? The undead can have babies?? Then theres the annoying nonsensicle writing. No country in their right mind would nuke a contained threat that could be eliminated with bullets to the head. The army at the beginning are so untrained and non lethal a scout group would be a better option for a high security escort. That same scout group could probably also plan a better way of getting the money out of the casino while keeping the place locked down and zombies out. Did I mention the zombie headshot to bullets fired ratio? While I love a clean pumpkin popping cranium explosion as much as the next guy, the ease at which these are pulled by the triggers of the untrained marksman in the film is a bit cringy, And then with all that epic fire power they just bail on the first Latino girl that dies in the hall way, they could have easily got her out of that scratch. Would you bring a concrete saw to a zombie fight? For something that weighs equivalent to a mini gun this was a wasted opertunity. If the vault wasn't locked when the black guy was shut in it I understand him getting out, but how he then crawled out from ground zero of a nuclear explosion without growing a second head I'll never understand. The opening montage screamed zombieland without the humour, though the rest of the visuals are very well done. Bautista was good, always a fan. The time loop theory when they find the other team dead in the vault room was cool and could have been furthered. Zombie tiger was cool. The movie In general thankfully wasn't overly woke or politically preachy which was a fresh breeze of hope for what now days seems to be a crumpling Hollywood and is the reason for at least 3 stars, Bautista gets the other. But don't take my word for it, watch it for yrself. ✌
Mosul (2019)
Better than The Hurt Locker
Please don't let the subtitles stop you from watching this gritty and realistic true story of the Iraqi men who kicked Isis (daesh) out of this war torn city. I'm not a fan of talking up films or reviews but when I sit through an entire movie and the only time I look at my phone is to msg my brothers to WATCH MOSUL!, thats a good sign its a cracker.
