The Pig and Whistle (1967)
Unintentional Hilarity During The Opening
This show invoked unintentional hilarity amongst adolescents and juveniles alike during its opening after the theme song singalong when the camera would centre on host, John Hewer, who would bellow out an emphatic cry of, "Watch your cox!!!!!!!!!!" I believe it was some sort of British expression, which had an entirely innocent meaning, possibly to do with the sport of rowing. Who knows? Maybe it was spelled differently, and had something to do with rooster farming, but I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the double-entendre meaning my fellow adolescents and juveniles (as well as the juvenile-minded) and I, took it to mean. Regardless, I'm sure many a parent reprimanded their kids for snickering during the opening back in the day.
Chez Carla (2000)
Woefully Unfunny...
Whomever gave the green light to the extremely unfunny Carla Collins to produce this mess should never work in TV again. I sat through the episode that Colin Mochrie guest starred on, and it was an utter waste of time. Laugh? I didn't even come close to breaking into a grin. The writing was several steps below amateurish and Collins acting skills and comedic timing were simply nonexistent. This show was unanimously panned by viewers week after week on The Comedy Network's message board until they finally pulled the plug on this turkey. Where anyone got the idea that Collins had the chops to carry a television show as its star is a mystery for the ages, but in this day and age of selling crap to people and making them eat it, it's really no surprise she landed a TV show. Her talent level was right on par with the drivel they served up.
Commander's Log (2004)
Calling It Low Budget Is An Insult To All Low Budget Projects...
Let's be realistic here. The only reasons anyone would give Commander's Log a positive review would be if they stood to gain financially; were blindly sucking up to a friend or relative associated with the project, or are easily impressed by amateurish drivel. Severe mental illness could also be accepted as a reason for praising such claptrap in a pinch. I, too, sat through this poop on the Space Network, but only because a relative happens to be one of the "stars", but I refuse to respond positively to garbage to appease family. The network ran it straight without commercials for its entire painful 22 minutes - undoubtedly because they could find no sponsor foolhardy enough to waste their advertising dollar on this crackpot venture. The project was undeniably self-produced for the simple reason that no studio would look at the asinine script without reaching for the shredder. Made on a shoestring budget (and it looks like that shoestring snapped partway through production), it gives the word amateur a whole new meaning. I saw better material improvised in high school Drama classes 20 years ago. Commander's Log? It's a "log" all right. Somebody flush it.
