Joe vs. Carole (2022)

Entertaining series

I'm a massive fan of the original Tiger King Series. I was worried this series would be corny but I was surprised how quickly became immersed in this new Tiger King world. Its quirky but nuanced. The acting was really great. Especially the Joe Exotic character. It has a uniquely American aesthetic. The editing is on point. I really enjoyed it.

This series is all build up and no climax. Snippets of lives are shown without any depth or follow through. Its kinda like online dating. A part of a story is shown then it's "Thank you. Next! "

Cowboy Bebop (2021– )

Trying too hard to be edgy.

This is rather an insufferable show. I can only assume the point was to make a deliberate B Grade movie along the line of District 9 but its really terrible. Bad plot, bad acting. Sets were somewhat ok. I won't be watching beyond the first episode.

Maid (2021)

I can't stop thinking about this.

The acting, sets and locations were amazing, however its the story which is haunting me. The fact this story has resonated with so many people is comforting yet also heartbreaking. I WAS that mother. Same age, same socio-economic position, same partner, dysfunctional parents. I loved nature. The thing that hurts the most is I had the same potential. I had university scholarships but was still too poor to finish. I'm still essentially a 'Maid'. But my son is at University. This story hurts my soul. Not all stories are meant to make you feel good but that is so many peoples realities. This Series is about LIFE. And that is why it is amazing.

Nomadland (2020)

Traveling Mental Illness

This movie is actually quite bad. The main character is unlikeable and clearly has Depression and an Avoidant Attachment Disorder. This makes her extremely boring and unsatisfying to watch as a character.

It portrays the Nomad lifestyle as a lifestyle for the desperate and dispossessed. Whether or not this is an accurate portrayal it is totally uncompelling.
