Hellboy (2004)
10/10
This is what movies are supposed to be.
27 March 2004
I was fortunate enough to see a special screening of Hellboy at Universal Citywalk on March 26, 2004. I went in with high expectations, and god dammit they were exceeded. This movie just plain rocks, and if I had the chance I'd love to shake Guillermo Del Toro's hand for creating such a great fun movie and the entertainment it gave me. Great acting from a great cast (especially Ron Perlman as Hellboy, I can't believe the studio actually wanted Vin Diesel...), great characters, quotable dialogue, amazing visuals, excellent action AND humor, it had 'em all. I definitely recommend seeing it, especially if your a comic fan. Guillermo knows how to make a comic book movie, and this is truly a comic book brought to life.

My only complaint: it ended...

Versus (II) (2000)
My kind of film
4 September 2003
Just watched Versus, and it was damn good. Good action, decent acting, decent gore. Very old school action and horror elements, no cheap scares and CGI. The fight between the main hero and villain at the end kicked total ass, as did most of the action scenes in the film. The only real flaw was two characters, I guess I'll call them "Officer" and "Fighter" since they weren't given real names, which came in really late in the movie and added nothing to the plot (well, except for explain how the hero got a huge gun for five minutes). Cut them out and it was a perfectly good action-horror movie.

I highly recommend this movie.

The Funniest, and One of My Favorite Sequels
18 November 2001
I love this movie! Sure, it isn't a classic piece in the history of the slasher genre like the original Nightmare on Elm Street, but it is still very, very entertaining. The odd thing is that this is almost the complete opposite of the original. Where as the original Elm Street is pure horror, this film is pure comedy spoof.

I don't know why people don't like this film. It may be a lot different from the rest of the series, but loosen up! After watching the first couple death scenes, you gotta like Freddy!

The title is the real problem, though. I mean, is there anyone out there who thinks the real Freddy Krueger is gone for good? We've already had a semi-sequel in "New Nightmare", it's just a matter of time till old Freddy is back on the screen.

Not one of Freddy's best, but still ok
18 November 2001
If you really like Freddy Krueger, or are just obsessed with slasher films, yes you should definately watch it. If your looking for Oscar material, or at least something with a plot, I suggest you don't go near this film. The one good thing about this movie is Freddy, who in this instalment comes across darker than in any other. No wise-cracks, just lots and lots of slashing with his famous glove. Besides that you got half-decent special effects, no script, and a whiny loser as a hero.

If you want the best the Nightmare On Elm Street series has to offer, watch the classic original, Dream Warriors, and Freddy's Dead. If you've already seen those, and every other slasher film known to man, rent this. It's still somewhat entertaining.

Emperor: Battle for Dune (2001 Video Game)
Excellent Game, Capturing the Spirit of DUNE
16 October 2001
After the entertaining, yet somewhat dissapointing DUNE 2000, we get a new RTS game in the Dune Universe which exceeds all my expectations. First off we have the new movie chapters, setting up the story and giving you orders for your missions, which not only are visually superior to those of the previous game, but at times to both the movie and the miniseries! Though the plot is barely like in the classic novel, it remains more faithful to the feel and visual style that Dune still deserves in a movie form. Once again the visual work is kept close to the David Lynch film, but offers plenty of new sights. Not only that, but visuals in the actual gameplay are better than in any other RTS game I have ever seen, and in 3D! The sandworms, made very small in D2K, now often take up the entire screen! This game definately kicks ass, and is a must for all Dune fans.

Dune 2000 (1998 Video Game)
Fun Game
16 October 2001
Why is it that every previous comment here seems to be not for this game, but for the new miniseries? Perhaps people weren't paying attention. Anyways, this game is fun, and a must for fans of the novel series as well as the movie or miniseries, all of which I am a great fan of. The look of the characters and such are primarily based on the original, David Lynch film, but shows some originality. Essentially a redo of Dune 2 with modern game technology and touches of the C&C series, it's one real drawback is there are not three seperate disks for each side in the game, thus eliminating the idea of loaning a friend one of the disks and playing each other online. Unless your a Dune fan, stick with C&C Red Alert.

Okay Film about the MIB
20 September 2001
Saw the last three fourths of this film on TV a while back. While the film isn't all that special, at the least it's a good way to pass the time, especially if you love films about UFOs or alien abductions. It's obvious that the guy who wrote this did some research on the subject, but didn't dig all too deep. It did seem a little cheep that they had scenes of the MIB in black SUVs, a form of vehicle never reported in real life cases.

Not bad, but not excellent either. 2 out of 5 stars.

For Michael Myers Fans
27 August 2001
As a major fan of the Halloween slasher series, I have watched this film quite a few times. Though not as good as some of the other installments, it is still one of the better slasher films of the 1990s. The plot is a bit confusing (mainly because the director decided to screw around with it), and a couple of the death scenes over the top. Still, it feature great atmosphere, great music, and near the end one of the best kill scenes in slasher history! If you enjoyed all the other Halloween films, or just really like horror, this is required viewing.

Excellent Re-imagining
19 August 2001
Positively one of the best movies this summer. Great makeup, great visuals, great performances = great movie. Now it isn't perfect, but don't listen to these other guys you've listed fifty billion problems with it, they just didn't get it. But if you like action, science-fiction, and apes, go see this movie. Trust me!
