Mister Scrooge to See You (2013)
Train wreck
This was such a trainwreck i couldn't stop watching. Seriously if you are considering giving it a shot don't... you might get trapped as well.
The Moodys (2014)
Worthy follow-up to A Moody Christmas
I'm glad I found this, it is worthy of the Moody family name. A Moody Christmas is my families go to holiday classic, so The Moodys had a lot to live up to. It is a worthy continuation of the lives of the most lovably dysfunctional family ever conceived. We have purchased both series in AUS Dvd along with a multi-region player just to watch each holiday season.
A Moody Christmas (2012)
PLEASE FIND AND WATCH
I write this now only because I just finished choking down the US adaptation, which I knew would not be great, just not as horrific as it actually was when compared to the original.
We found this on HULU in 2013, then bought the AUS dvd's and a multi region player when it left HULU. It is my families go to classic. It is not Christmas without A MOODY Christmas.
The character and story development does in 6 episodes what most series can't do in 6 seasons. Please do yourself a favor and watch this anyway you can, especially if you found any worth in the recent US version.
The Moodys (2019)
Maybe 5 stars if not compared to the original
The original Australian production is one of the most brilliant holiday classics in the history of holiday classics. My family has watched it in it's entirety every year since it came out. I have the Australian DVD's and a special player just to do so. When I saw that this adaptation was in the works I knew it would be hard to watch, but not mostly painful. The US remake suffers on two fronts, 1) It would be a confusing enough mess had I not had the context of the original. 2) When compared to the original it falls flat on it's face.
On the positive side, there are a couple of decent story lines outside of the original, but gained little traction. Some of the characters (and those acting) were decent... but some were so underdeveloped and poorly acted anything good was nearly unnoticeable.
If you liked this in the least, please do yourself a favor and find the original production. You will not be disappointed.
Stir of Echoes (1999)
Myth about Sixth sense comparisons
Just to set the record straight about the ongoing comparisons to this and Sixth Sense (which I liked as well.) Stir of Echoes was completed before Sixth Sense. Through various Hollywood string pulling Sixth Sense managed to be released first though, which is one reason for ones success over the other. This movie is a first rate thriller. The only similarity between the two movies is the boys contact with the dead. Stir of Echoes has a darker grittier feel.
