Had given up on good movies---Annemin Yarasi was Excellent

My Mother's Wound is a powerful movie. Dramatic and suspenseful. It's rare that I feel so involved in a movie, I had feelings for everyone.

I haven't thought of the atrocious civil war, in civilized Europe at the end of the 20th century in a long time. I'm ashamed to say I don't even know who "won", or what was won.

How is it that we ordinary humans are capable of taking just vile action against each other. Especially to people we've known our entire lives?

Not the typical dance competiion movie

Acting, choreography, editing and dialogue were well done. A very pleasurable way to spend 106 minutes. Glad Netflix is running it. . Although Non-Turkish viewers will miss out on many of the one liners, the acting is good enough to make up for the poor subtitles.

This was a pleasure to watch
16 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I've never been a fan of Kemal Sunal, his comedy style got on my nerves (nur icinde yatsin). In Propaganda, he was a delight, as was the entire cast.

Other viewers have commented (possible spoiler)that in eastern Anatolia a pregnant daughter would not have been so easily accepted. Granted in the average home it would not have, BUT....Rahim was not your stereotypical ignorant Anatolian. He was a WISE, compassionate and loyal man. Loyal to his friends, and loyal to his family. How wonderful that the writer could portray a Turkish father who loves his daughter and her happiness is his priority! I think we have all seen ENOUGH movies where out of wedlock pregnancy is automatically a disgrace.

There is much in government that doesn't make sense, but we go along with it, perhaps thinking, "well it doesn't make sense to me, but it does to everyone else, so I'm not going to question it." (i.e. the electoral college in the US). This is a movie that points out the nonsenses of bureaucracy.

The installation of fences and the definite marking of boundaries was a new process in the 40's. Certainly the government made mistakes, and didn't think everything through at the onset. It is not difficult to imagine that there was no immediate process for citizens that were living on the "other side". (SPOILER) When the family crashes through the gate, it may seem silly at first, but think about it, it was sure to bring faster results than letters and petitions to Ankara.

This movie was a pleasure to watch.

I was sooo disappointed
16 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I had looked forward to viewing this movie, it seemed anyone who had seen it loved it. I was completely disappointed. The acting was so overdone. The script seemed like the writer had gathered 25 different scripts from various movies and randomly chose dialogue and pieced them together to form one plagarized script.

Spoilers: Was any cliche omitted in this movie? There was a mobstyle hit, homosexuality, prostitution, a serial killer, a fire, numerous godfather wannabees, the main character in love with the prostitute, cross dressing, torture by the police, Hannibal Lechter style mutilations, I could go on and on.

Line's like (the godfather wannabe to the prostitute)

-"Ben senin arik calismani istemiyorum" (I don't want u to work anymore)

-"Ben calismasam kirayi kim odeyecek?" (Who would pay the rent if I didn't work)

Unrealistic scenes: We never saw a single policeman during the serial killer scenes, yet when the main character disappeared his father was taken in by the police and tortured for weeks.

The only way I can make sense out of this whole movie, is if the version I had scene was severely edited from the original. I definitely do not recommend it, and would greatly enjoy discussing it further with anyone who would care to do so.
