The Ballad of Josie (1967)
I like it
I like Doris Day and try to get all her films in german. You cannot imagine how happy I was, when I received "The Ballad of Josie" ( Das Teufelsweib aus Texas )( german title). It's a rare film, but I like it because of Doris. Well, people who enjoyed "Pillow Talk" won't like to watch this one, I guess. In this film are some funny moments, for example when Doris wears jeans and surprise the men or when she is falling on the bed. But you can't compare it to her better films. I can only say, Doris is in it, some other good actors and the plot isn't bad at all.
Caprice (1967)
It isn't boring at all
I don't know why the most people think, that "Caprice" is a mad movie, it is no true. This one is the follow-up of "The Glass-Bottom Boat" and is in every case bigger an greater, but not better. Frank Tashlin did a very good job, when he first cooperated with Doris but he used her for his crazy and hardly understandable sense of humor. You have to laugh about the whole movie, you can't take anything in it seriously. That's the trick of it. There are very funny moments, e. g. when Doris goes to cinema to watch "Caprice" and when she strikes again a sexual attack. Perhaps a few of you really enjoy this movie as I do. Take it easy and with a little smile. For all others: Doris didn't like the movie herself.
Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960)
My pet movie
"Please don't eat the daisies" is one of my favorite movies of Doris Day. In opposite of her other Screwball-Comedies she shows us in this movie her natural talent. She sings like in the most of her movies, but her song with the children is made in an excellent way. Her Leading Man David Niven is the perfect partner for the lovely Ms Day. We can also see, that she is one of the few real Hollywoods Ladies, who played with children. In ten movies she plays a mother !!! This movie kept her at the top of the Box Office after her sucess with Pillow Talk, which is the opposite to this one. Everybody will enjoy this little cut comedy, which is really more than 'just one of those films".
I'll See You in My Dreams (1951)
The best of Doris' last films
"I'll see you in my dreams" is one of the last really good Doris Day film, which is not only a Musical. A lot of people think, that this extra ordinary actress was only able to play Comedy or Musical Roles. It's has also a dramtic side, which can be compared to her performance in "Young at Heart". I guess "I'll see you in my dreams" was the cause, that she was voted as the Most Popular Actress of the Year in 1952.
