You Are Not My Mother (2021)
Very solid horror
I like horror movies. This was a solid horror movie that kind of surprised me.
The acting was very good, production good. Horror elements excellent and tastefully done. No LOUD NOISES for jump scares, it had some well done creepy moments. Use of effects really well done too.
Decent bit of lore, though i'd have liked a little more. But that's just me.
The story telling and pacing was excellent, I did not feel it went too slow nor felt rushed.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this movie if you're into horrors. Also i'd agree with another review that there is a drama element, which I normally avoid; however I felt the story flowed so nicely it was very good!
The Last House on Cemetery Lane (2015)
Ultimately disappointing
The majority of the film has no horror, no suspense, no progression, no lore, no scares. About 60% (70%?) in it starts but by that time it leaves me asking "why bother with the first half?"
No way back from that for me, disappointing.
Aura (2018)
Afternoon tv soap opera horror
Sadly the story was doomed by a few things. The production, acting and script. It had moments where it was ok but certain and several scenes felt like I was watching a soap opera.
The accent thing was just weird, I'm English and I could tell the actors were English. Only realised it was meant to be set in America when the tarot reading cost dollars.
Favourite line - wife to husband: are you leaving me (alone in house) with her (sister possessed with demon)?
Husband: yes you'll be fine bye.
Also Rula Lenska was good.
Pentagram (2019)
The worst horror movie I have ever seen
Well it's currently on netflix and i've watched everything else so I went for this, it was recommended to me.
To begin with you could tell it was low budget movie but I have watched plenty of horrors with no budget so I do not hold that against it.
The script is awful, the actual plot required better writing to be good, but there was nothing, apart from some plot holes but who cares when it's so bad.
There's nothing scary about this, no atmosphere, no tension, no creepiness, nothing.
I guess you could call it a horror due to having a pentagram on the floor, and reusing the exact same animation of a demon twice, but that's an insult to the horror genre.
Honestly, I love horror movies and even some bad ones, but this is so below being bad, it has no redeeming features, not one.
