A Walk to Remember (2002)
Sweet Movie with a GREAT Moral Taught
Hey, maybe "A Walk to Remember" isn't perfect, but it sure got my emotional juices flowing. I didn't go to see it in the theaters, even though I was interested, but I finally watched it when, by a fluke, my sister-in-law left it at our house. I completely loved it! I didn't expect much from Mandy Moore, but she excelled at this part and was able to fit the plain, awkward character very well. Shane West is, of course, adorable, and his turn-around is very believable. Not only is it a great movie for hopeless romantics like me, but it is a great movie because the girl doesn't make herself worse for the guy, but the guy makes himself better for the girl. There are so many horrible influences in this world, and the fact that this movie focuses on the GOOD influences is just awesome. I do not normally cry at movies, but I was bawling by the time this one ended. There are some very sweet moments, and while the "Only Hope" scene where she sings seems out of place, I thought it worked well. For those who love good, old-fashioned coming-of-age stories without all the crap "teen movies" seem to incorporate, this movie is a must-see.
Rat Race (2001)
Fun Take-off of "Mad World"
When I saw the previews for this movie, I filed it under "Do Not See", because I thought of it as a cheap knock-off of the classic, "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", one of my family's favorites. But, my cousin coerced me into seeing it, and I was surprisingly pleased! It definitely takes off of it's parent movie, but has it's funny moments, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The scenes with John Cleese and his rich colleagues were hilarious, and I really enjoyed Amy Smart's dealings with her boyfriend (Dean Cain). I am a die-hard "Mad World" fan, but I definitely recommend this movie as they search for their own "big dubya".
The Last Starfighter (1984)
Not an Oscar-winner, but fun!
My sister-in-law brought this movie over to my house last year because she knew how much I loved Robert Preston, and she thought I would enjoy it. It was great seeing an older Robert Preston still conning the people around him, and although the movie had it's sagging parts, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. There are some wonderful memorable lines in this movie, especially those spoken by Grig, the "gung-ho iguana". It's a fun storyline, and it also is very sweet. Nothing too spectacular, and I'm sure the critics had a hey-day with it, but I recommend this movie to anyone who needs a light-hearted, fun, underdog-takes-on-the-universe movie to enjoy.
The Music Man (1962)
One of my personal favorites
The Music Man is definitely one of the best musicals ever. I love the way the music goes and the comedy in it as well. I love "Ya Got Trouble" by Robert Preston. He plays the part of Harold Hill so well, nothing can compare. The characters are truly ones to remember, and this movie is great to see over and over again.
Stepsister from Planet Weird (2000)
Cheesy at times, but fun and cute
I saw this movie, and thought it was the cheesiest thing I'd ever seen. But I saw it again and it grew on me. A very fun and cute storyline, and very memorable lines- I made a friend of mine watch it with me once, and we can't stop talking about the different flavors of potato chips. Even though some parts may be a little strange, but I definitely enjoy it, especially Tom Wright (Cutter) and Henry Feagin (Fanul). They were very cute and fun characters.
