Deep, Dark Film!
18 February 2005
Not for the Squeamish! It deals with sexual abuse of children. I saw an interview with Jenna Malone and she was emphatic to re-assure people that she was not herself abused during this film, she got along very well with Ron Eldard, and that she understood that it was acting, etc. I'll bet that some actors turned down the role, given the subject matter. From a standpoint of dealing with the subject matter honestly the director Angelica Huston pulled no punches. There's a haunting scene where Eldard was sitting in a car with Jena on his lap and he abuses her - I'm sure it was a very difficult scene to film! But it's a "must see" for the realistic portrayal of a true story.

A Must-See Brian DePalma Film!
7 March 2004
If you like DePalma's films then this is one of his better ones. He always seems to confound the viewer with plot twists (Body Double) and he does it one better here - Brian rewinds the film about 2/3's of the way through and gives you a whole new ending! There are scenes in `Femme Fatale' as eye-popping and meticulously choreographed as in `Blow Out', `Mission: Impossible', and 'The Untouchables'. He uses cross-cutting, roaming steadicam, and split-screens, as in the museum seduction in `Dressed To Kill'. The truly breathtaking Cannes heist that opens the film with the seductive Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is worth about 100 rewinds to see it again. And it's great to see DePalma's old buddy Greg Henry again! Keep making them Brian!
