The Green Knight (2021)
Great in many ways, one flaw.
This movie could have been perfect. This movie is in so may ways great. The movie as a whole is mediocre.
Unfortunately the movie have a huge flaw. The plot is in large parts dull and sometimes just not satisfying to watch. It feels in parts like an experimental movie.
If you have the ability to differentiate the elements of a movie you will really enjoy mosts of this one.
Yakari, le film (2020)
An adaptation as expected
Because of my child I watch since more than one year a lot of Yakari. I have seen every episode multiple times. I can't say that I am a fan but the Show is certainly at least ok for me.
Watching the movie was a pleasant experience to me. Next to the nice animation, I think they caught the mindset of the tv show really well.
The movie dont give you anything new and is more a well made remake of different experiences of the already known TV Show.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
A well produced poor story
This movie disappointed me a lot. Mostly because of the good reviews. I though the first one was already more than enough but I wondered "they must have found some special idea hidden in the plot". No, they did not and I have no idea why the movie has so good rates, I have a guess.
Basically, the movie is pretty well produced and the effect are nice to me. It's a good foundation to be for a at least a good movie. The problem is the plot. The plot is so poor, there is nothing more to take out which you had not seen in the first 20 minutes of the first part. It's basically always the same, beside some terrible character decisions which I don't want to comment now.
If you think you would re-enjoy the first 20 minutes of the first part over and over again than this movie is for you.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Like a rock band without instrumentals and a bad singer
This movie is bad on so many level. I guess it would be a good case for students to identify what could possibly go wrong. I did not expected something good but this is another level.
Instead of watching the movie you should hit you head against a wall for one hour or so, this would still be better invested time.
Russian Doll (2019)
What happened with the reviewers? Terrible TV Show.
This show is so bad on so many levels. The acting is soo bad, the screenplay is terrifyingly and the storyline is well lets say ok. You could like the soundtrack.
Much more terryfing than this movie are the overwhelming positive reviews of users. Eather people lost any good taste of moviemaking in the result of netflix and co or the reviews are, lets say not that true... maybe both.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Dreadful dialogue, poor storyline, nice action
The dialogues of the movie are really bad. Almost always when a protagonist says something it feels kind of wrong. The worse part is by far the character of Sarah Connors and it is hard to overlook her.
Beside this the storyline is pretty thin too but not bad. Some ideas are nice and I guess they made some courageous decision in the plot.
The action scenes are really good. Yes, its basically always the same thing, some robots fighting each others and its well made. I had the feeling I had in the past watching T2.
I found my peace with the movie, sure there was some obvious potential upward but we all know from our own experience that there is a lot of potential down. So dont expect that much and enjoy the action.
Halloween (2018)
60 minutes almost fun
The first 60 minutes of the movie presented a decent slasher movie. And we got on top a slight idea of a story.
The movie switch to the mid-end of the movie and get really ridiculous. We have to be tolerant in movies and accept some situations or decisions without them the movie could not be fun at all. What if Lorie took an Helicopter and just flow away? This makes sense but is no fun. BUT it isn't meant by that to make the most stupid or ridiculous decisions possible! The movie aford much more than tolerance at this point, you need devotion. I have no ideas what happened to the script writer but the movie get really hard to watch. It feels like a teenager who have to leave a party and try to get as fast as drunk as possible...
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
A nice actor and a sloppy movie production
First thing first, I still think Phoenix is a really great actor and as far as he is allowed to play the scenes by itself it feels really good.
In my opinion the big flaws of the movie are in the production. Well the story is pretty flat but that could be ok. The cut are exeptionally bad, you dont feel any kind of flow. It is also not this feeling of beiing inconfortable with a cut, it just makes no sence at all and destroy the atmosphere. This happen really really often. Sometimes on some scenes you will guess "Oh I saw this kind of scene in another movie" and now you get conscious that some "cool" scene may not works unconditionally.
The movie dismantle itselfs really fast, at the end there is still a great actor and thats probably not the worse trade off for your time...
Busanhaeng (2016)
A fresh ride abroad the familiar zombie flicks
First of all I really enjoyed this fresh zombie movie.
Let me clear of the way some nasty points I think you will have to overlook in order to enjoy the movie.
First of all it is for sure not "the best zombie movie ever", basically it is a nice zombie movie, what is, at least for my taste, really good for this kind of movies. Furthermore, the makeup and/or masks of the zombies is not realistic or cool at all. For sure you won't miss the blood stain in the orange color. This movie doesn't follow the same rules as the usual Hollywood movies. It seems very important to the director to point out some ethical views, unfortunately the same aspect over and over.
So what's left?
I think some pretty nice and fresh ideas. I really like the minimalist setting with the train. This doesn't give the story that much space and I think "not that much of space" is a key point in Zombie movies. Despite the expected little space for storytelling the Story is not getting boring at all.
At the end you may say "Well, this was an enjoyable movie" but you will also report some scenes of the movie to a friend with a surprisingly high motivation.
Hardcore Henry (2015)
A poor movie with some brilliant scenes
Basically a "not that exceptional" movie.
But this is not due to the sum of average scene. More than that I believe Hardcore Henry is a mix of very good and very bad scenes, all dedicated to the action genre.
The whole movie is stupid, stupid storyline and unrealistic character and character decisions. But if you are able to overlook the subjects of logic and realism, you will still have to cope with a lot of shaky scenes. If you are able to overlook theses points than you will have an entertaining and fun experience. Some scenes are really great and fun. Some scenes are also brilliant and it is hard to guess how they made it. You will also get a new understanding of what it feels to be a stunt man.
You will also experience some crazy characters, besides being nonsense they will make you smile every now and then.
I think that the ego view is not adapted to a whole movie. The reasons behind this are that not every scene looks amazing in the ego sight, sometimes you want to see the whole scene, like a picture and not just a narrow corridor. Just imagine a movie like Matrix in ego view. I also believe that the gore elements were not an added value to the movie but this has probably to do with something like "taste".
This movie is probably better to watch with friends in order to overrun stupid storytelling and dialogues and laugh about hard action scenes.
Unthinkable (2010)
Meaningless aligned pictures
This movie is the worst movie I have seen since long ago, and I like to watch here and then some bad movies. Unfortunately this is the bottom of stupidity. It is almost fun to watch but to know that this story is meant to be serious is really frightening.
It is really hard to find something that is not totally stupid or meaningless in this movie. The screenplay is really bad, decisions are totally stupid and the talks... you will guess.
So finally there is just one interpretation possibility left: "it is some kind of fictive situation". But there are still the rules of logic and this movie seems to be stronger than theses.
So what is left at the end? Some mix of the Motel movies, some American pride with Hollywood flair.
Exam (2009)
Far not as smart as it presumes to be.
First the good points. I enjoyed the great idea and was expecting something like the cube. The music was pretty good the setting. Visuals and acting are moderate to good.
The movie pretends to be really smart with smart people acting smart. But this is not true. Basically the characters are pretty stupid and act respectively. But I could live with this discrepancy. A bigger problem is that the movie let you think of a smart storyline with smart evolving and maybe some genius plot twists. Basically just the Idea is not evolving at all till after the end of the movie. The characters just do "stuff" all the time. It is not like "the cube" when characters push a mystery along the story. The mystery stays till the end. The revelation of the "mystery" is really poor and is just working in an artificial setting without normal acting Characters.
I think this movie is far away from what it pretends to be and could not recommend it.
Gravy (2015)
Well-conceived fun in a gory setting.
What a roller-coaster ride!
I was not expecting that much watching this movie. I thought about a bad C movie with a cheap producing. Already in the first minutes I realized that my thoughts were wrong.
I really enjoyed the movie very much. It's an elegant mix of comedy and horror, where the classification in the one or the other scope is not always obvious. Both genre are successfully assisted by the whole techniques and instruments of film making.
The story is pretty flat but that is not the point of the movie and you won't miss it. The focus is much more on the presentation of the different scenes, underlined by some suitable/ non suitable music, and good camera views. Last but not least the screenplay is pretty smart, so that you won't always know if you what you are watching is supposed fright or make you laugh.
Thank you for the experience mister Roday.
Warrior (2011)
Grotesk and stupid, maybe a bad comedy
The beginning of the movie wasn't too bad, but it is going worse to worst. The story is incredibly stupid also the acting of every character. The stupidity of the decisions of the characters just can be toped by the stupidity of the storyline.
The main idea was not bad and some kind of original but the storyline stop really early in the movie and just left a big interrogation mark.
For Horror Fans who don't want any logic or storyline, the movie could be great, because it is very brutal and show different sides of brutality.
But the movie is much too worst if you are looking for something else than JUST brutality.
