Yuvakudu (2000)
Slightly unbelievable but has freshness
The film is not a master piece. In fact it has some serious holes in it. The sentiment is a bit overdone and the acting is pretty loose. But the comedy is good and is better than the usual teacher banging we have come to expect from such flicks. It also tries to deliver a message but ends up taking itself too seriously in the second half. The ending is pretty much on expected lines and can be considered the negative aspect of the film. However, the music is really good and along with the comedy prop up the film. It was not a success at the Box office but still a pretty good film to watch on the television, provided one has not already watched it. All things considered, I should say it is worth at least a try.
Sahara (2005)
Great popcorn Flick
Nice popcorn flick. The acting is good and Matthew McConaughey looks just the part of Dirk Pitt. The rest of the cast is also good. Steve Zahn had the best part I think. The character wasn't that of the typical sidekick and the director takes this into consideration by giving Al as much screen time as Dirk.I read the novel too and still found the film entertaining. There were a couple of scenes which made me laugh in disbelief, but the film needed such stuff. Dirk Pitt, the resourceful adventurer always turns adversity into advantage and this film tried pretty well to depict that. Also, the dialog between Dirk & Al is good. Only thing I felt out of order was Rudi being depicted as a complete nerd. Still makes a good viewing, though it helps not being hypercritical.
Batman Begins (2005)
Great Film
Being a Batman buff, I wanted to see this movie from the time I saw the trailer. Actually the last films from the batman franchise weren't quite up to the mark. (And I am not even thinking of Batman and Robin). This film was a pleasant surprise. The settings in this movie tend to be dark and convey the depth of corruption in Gotham. Director Nolan (who is great at doing thrillers) sticks to the right attitude for this film. The cast is great and Bale was pretty convincing.Cillian Murphy was pretty cool. The film leaned more on the psychological aspect of Batman than on his physical prowess, which is the way I want it to remain. That's what makes it the most faithful in the franchise.(Tim Burton's original is also close, but Joker overshadowed Batman). Great film for Batman fans and even others would enjoy it. Waiting for the Dark Knight.
