Sucker Punch (2011)
xploitation + game cutscenes x anime style / bad direction..
Wow, what can I say? The first 5 minute of Sucker Punch draws my blood rushing to my head. "Oh My god," I said. This might be the coolest intro I've seen since Pulp Fiction
The imaginary scene in this movie are spectacular, worth the ticket I must say. Expect many games and anime type cool factor and bad-ass-ness.
Sadly that's all good things I can say about Sucker Punch.
My friend told me that the title is a pun by itself.
as I leave the theater I can't stop thinking that perhaps I'm watching a movie with 3 different directors working 3 separate part.
1. The videoclips; full of MTVesque slomo visual with killer tunes.
2. The imaginary visuals; superbly crafted cutscenes inspired and adapted from many games and anime.
3. The boring talks; doesn't add much to move the the movie convincingly. Blah blah blah, mumble mumble, sob sob.. what's wrong? It's too boring that they don't even add any background music as courtesy to the audience.
All three part of the movie contrast greatly. I have no idea what they were thinking when writing this movie. The reason (if there any..) behind the disjointed reality are too shallow it insulted the audiences.
Beck (2010)
Great adaptation! From manga-anime to live action.
This is great manga-anime adaptation to live action. As an adaptation I would say it's almost perfect. Even the music is wickedly pleasing.
(However I should mention that they only adapted few arc of the original manga).
Beck adaptation to live action is done beautifully. Anybody who read the original manga will be pleased with clever and honest presentation of the story. I sat at the edge of my seat throughout the film wondering how much the casts, the scenes and the feels come to live just like they're in the manga.
Almost all key elements are laid just as in the original source. The material is handled with outmost care although some of characters motive in the movie are questionable if you don't read the lengthy manga first.
And Ryusuke does speak in English, real English! Not just some japanglish like we see normally in Japan TV or movie. Even in the anime adaptation the English is terrible (The character supposedly brought up in NY).
As the story is about badass talent, the musics does deliver the punch. I don't really knoe if they're actually originals but they sounds pretty convincing.
However, did I said before that they're almost perfect?
Well, I decided not to post any spoilers. ;)
Parêdo (2009)
Japan's Spanish Apartment
Its a Japanese answer to "L'auberge espagnole".
That's it.
Not really the same issue / story but that's the first thing that pop in my mind when watching Parade.
I've been watching many Japanese film and drama but almost none of them comprise of bunch of people sharing a house together. I don't really get it but perhaps Japanese don't like sharing a house unless in dire stress or consider privacy their top priority?
This film delights me. Perhaps not really original but it's refreshing, coming from Japan.
Ae-jeong-gyeol-pil-i doo nam-ja-e-ge mi-chi-neun yeng-hyang (2006)
This movie is hilarious!
My god I don't believe nobody ever review this movie yet.
I lent the movie to my friends once and they watched it over and over again, on a big screen with projector! The thing is that the remote of the player is broken so they always watch this movie, without skipping a scene.
Some of my friends also start pulling pranks, I mean serious pranks influenced by the awesome level of idiotic manners in the movie.
To cut it right away, this movie is a comedy with many creative black idea and lots of serious jokes. Exactly mirroring the title.
The lacks of love drove this miserable duo (the father lacks a wife love and son lacks mother) so much that they will stake anything to come out in front of other contenders to win the heart of the only woman in their lives that happens to be their tenant.
they will throw anything at each other at any given chance to drop the others down, however when chances are low and other contenders get the upper hands and they'll combine force and work together to cast them out off the game.
After that they'll start backstabbing each other once again and the circle continues. It's a hilarious situation watching them pulling pranks after pranks.
I love the endings too. Just like they say "Blood is thicker than water".
some of the ideas in the movie aren't original but I cant recall if the whole movie got ripped off somewhere else.
Highly recommended movie with lots of hilarious moments and memorable characters.
