What Is The 90's?
27 May 2024
There's obviously a method to the madness of the creators of this mini-series. While there is footage from the 90's and many pop culture examples in every episode....it would seem the episodes are merely vessels to push a revisionist ideology. If you "missed" the 90's you may be inclined to think this is accurate.

My introduction into the 80's & 90's was initially from my parents as I didn't hatch until the new millennium. From reading magazines, watching TV show, etc...all from the 90's, I thought I had a bit of an understanding of the 90's. I'm 7 episodes in and every episode seems to contradict my vision of the 90's. People other than yours truly have verified my suspicions.

This is without a doubt extremely revisionist and is a platform for the creators of the show to show "marginalized" groups that really were not at all relevant.

Personally I'd rather see a show focused on the 90's rather than pushing various ideologies. Only 3 episodes to go.

I gave 3 stars due to some of the footage that was well presented.

Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde
4 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very strange to see snippets of Ana Kasparian having a reasonable conversation with Ben Shapiro. I've had the misfortune of viewing the usual unhinged Ana on The Young Turks.

This episode could have been a hatchet job on Ana and her radical ideology but Lauren was extremely fair in her analysis. I'm certainly glad that Lauren called out Ana (nicely) on some of her statements but she acknowledged Ana was sensible in her statements that crime is out of control in Los Angeles. When did Ana have her epiphany? I hope it wasn't because of her terrible experience while walking her dog. (I don't wish that on anyone).

It's interesting that Nina Turner (Young Turks) also had an issue a media personality with a typical "progressive " talking point recently.

Lauren eloquently gave her clear analysis, as always. A refreshing episode where a host gives an ideological opposite credit for acknowledging a problem and a past mistake.

The Amber Ruffin Show: Episode #1.20 (2021)
Season 1, Episode 20
Great.....more singing!
17 January 2023
Glad to see a show that acknowledges a "woman" exists. That being said, I'm still waiting for the show that promises only "the good parts....the comedy".

Well this episode aged rather poorly. The narrative Amber was pitching was no where near the reality of why there is a problem. Extremely disingenuous to the topic and brimming with fallacies.

Please.....I'm begging....no more singing. Hire an actual musical guest. Heaven forbid that the entertainment value could improve marginally.

The most outrageous aspect is that this Talk show is so desperate for laughs, that this fact makes me laugh.

Yet another sad show that is more interested in applause than entertaining.

ZIWE: Juneteenth (2022)

Umpteenth....
28 December 2022
Gee.....who had the brilliant idea of airing this show on Christmas Day? Why not save it for.......drum roll.....June.

This topic has been done over & over again. How 'bout a truly original idea?

From my perspective, centre right, this is infinitely better than hateful shows like Amber Ruffin but still falls flat. Yes, Ziwe has a sense of humor and she makes fun of the right, which is alright but she also pokes at the far left as well. There were a few laughs in this episode and was far better than the other show I rated but........there were chances for humor and entertainment that were squandered.

Wayne Brady and yours truly are not exactly on the same page politically but he can be very entertaining and can sing extremely well. Not Sammy Davis Jr. But not that far off. I complained previously that Ziwe needs a real musical guest. Let's face it, her musical numbers are subpar at best. The show finally had a legitimate musical guest!!!

Here was a chance for an uplifting show, with some musical numbers that had a theme for the season. I would have let Wayne Brady loose and let him improvise as we know from his "Who's Line Is It" days.

It would be nice to have some guests from the right and some real fun with some different views.

It's Simple not Complicated
8 October 2022
Sadly Jon did his level best to complicate a very simple subject.

The summary of the show was extremely disingenuous and a fallacy to boot. I'm really not sure how this made it to air? Who thought this show was a good idea, especially in the light it was presented. Was the producer asleep at the wheel or even present for this train wreck.

An extremely one sided presentation didn't help and Jon did a horrible job of selling the premise for this episode. Just remember the truth never objects to being questioned. There were no meaningful questions asked to anyone despite the golden opportunity.

Sadly there was literally no science in this program. Scientism was clearly the order du jour.

Backfired....
12 February 2022
This is deserving of a 1.....or less. Clearly this did not have the intended consequence. Instead this reflected extremely poorly on the producer, directors, actors/people..... Nothing but hate and divisiveness.

Very amateurish. It looks like it was put together by a petulant 10 year old.

Not recommended in any way, shape or form.

No spoilers here. Others have touched on to the reasons this can be difficult to watch. Very well done and this is something that needed to be told.

Highly recommended.

Trudging Like A Sloth
10 February 2022
Nothing "Rolling" here. It would have been nice to see some interviews of people that a directly affected by the graffiti/vandalism. It would have been refreshing to see a bit a balance. Sadly this was not the case.

On top of that, this was not in the least bit entertaining, engaging, informative, etc....

Blame lies squarely on the producer, director, writers, etc...

Not recommended.

My favourite Episode In The Series To Date....
26 December 2021
No spoilers. Excellent acting throughout. Less dialogue in this episode. The company of actors here will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Kudos to the director & writers as well. Highly recommended.

Someone left out the comedy?
15 November 2021
This show needs to be rebranded as a tragedy. Shakespeare has absolutely nothing on this mess.

It's easy to see why today the SNL audience is less than 1/2 of what it was in the late 80's, early 90's. The combination of Bowen Yang and Ziwe was unbearable. Absolutely no humour to be found. Very disingenuous with respect to the topic of the show. This show needs a real musical guest.
