Civil War (2024)

3rd time trying to submite this review
20 April 2024
I traveled more than 500km's, to see this film with my youngest son. It did not disappoint. It is NOT an action film, or a war film. It is a work of art. People who saw it, based on the preview clips will be disappointed, or not understand the message.

I wanted to see it based on the writer, but was blown away by the cinematography, and sound. A lot of people will miss-understand most of the subtle messages in this film. I was not sure my son would appreciate it, but he got it the way I did. He is in the military, so it was great to see him get the massage, or the fact that it wasn't a direct one.

Visually, amazing. Emotionally painful. Subtle in showing the odd side of humanity, and it's extremes. Worth seeing more than once, and that is rare these days.

haven't smiled so much in a long time.
18 September 2021
I am usually weary of instant popular hits. I had resisted seeing this show for a while, but my friends and relatives kept insisting i should try it.

I finally did, without having even seen a preview.

My cheeks are still hurting from smiling so much.

I am only 4 episodes in, but I have laughed, I have cried and am so looking forward to watching the rest. I have no love of organized sports, but that isn't what this show is about. It just makes you smile. You cant help being sucked into it. It's not a Disneyland fairy tale, but is so optimistic, yet seems real, that you want to believe in the characters & story. I am hooked, and normally a skeptic I give this a fully thought out 9/10..

Line of Duty: Episode #6.7 (2021)

WHY!!!
13 September 2021
One of my absolute favorite shows, how did they wreck this ending so badly? All the build up, to fizzle out without even a whimper. Very unhappy with this episode, I can only hope that they make the next season quickly, and properly, or it will all be tainted by this last terrible one.

Definately fiction, but enjoyable
13 September 2021
As an amateur navy buff, there are too many mistakes to mention in regards to the on board submarine sets, & navy protocols & procedures.

However, this is a crime fiction drama, and holds your interest, if you can ignore some of (the very obvious) flaws. The acting is good, despite some poor scripting. The sub plots and back story seems to now hold more interest to me than the main plot. Maybe the ending will surprise?

That said, when was the last time you saw a show, or movie on a submarine?

There could have been much better research done, and more thought put into the sets, and navy procedures and protocols, but at its heart it is a crime drama, not a documentary. I will keep watching, as what else is there to?

best new aussie TV in ages.
2 May 2020
I was surprised at the overall rating this show scored, till I read all the reviews on IMDB. It seems it scored 9-10/10 for 95% of reviewers, but some decided to give it a 01/10, maybe to deliberately drop its rating? To be honest, I have never seen anything that could deserve a score that low. Even the worst, pulp daytime TV soaps, score more than that, if only for the effort of making them. I can understand if you were expecting an action thriller, or heist movie, you may be disappointed that it wasn't that, but for what it was, and what it aimed for it was truly brilliant. To say that a romantic comedy lacked action sequences, and is there for bad, is ridiculous. To the Ray Donovan fans, IT IS NOT that genre of show, get over it. This is an emotional road journey, that is very Australian in it's telling. Yes there are some cliche's, but anyone who has done a road journey across the country will know that there are really characters like that out there. The very honest, uncut emotion and feeling this show brings is refreshing, as is the scenery, cinematography and sound track. The characters are flawed, but the journey that take you on, only makes you feel for them despite that. The acting is brilliant, the chemistry between Lucky and Meg is complex, and evoking. This is a show that will make you laugh, make you cry, and at times make you cringe. But is SO WORTH the trip. Best new Australian show in ages. well done.

awesome love story
19 February 2014
I found this a wonderful, realistic love story. You can remove the sex scenes (if you want), and it still remains a powerful, wonderful love story. The camera work, works, the actress' deliver. The hype about the lesbian sex ( though titillating) doesn't matter, it works as a great coming of age love story that doesn't hide the hard truth about it. I can not believe it isn't nominated for best foreign film. By far the best love story I have seen this decade. Some of the sex scenes seem a bit put on, which is in stark contrast to how real the longing, lustfull scenes are realistic. If this film doesn't take you back to your first real "love" & confusion about it, whether your straight, gay, bi , or whatever; then you don't have a pulse.

The Bridge (2011–2018)

excellent! Awesome, complex drama.
27 February 2013
To sum up in short: suspense, good acting, real empathy for the story line, great appropriate music, twists that keep you hooked wanting to keep going. The two leads are very different, and equally interesting and complex. The support cast is first rate, and the suspense just keeps building.Best drama/ mystery that I've seen for ages. Well worth it. By epp2 I was pleasantly surprised that it kept the intrigue up. By Epp3 I was thinking of ringing in sick for work to keep watching. If you like your mysteries to keep surprising you, and adding layers, and layers, then this is for you. There aren't the usual "holywood" dumbed down explanations at the end of each epp, instead it makes you keep thinking.I have to say that they have done a first rate job with the music score too.Although even without it, the storyline gives you plenty of emotional reaction. This is one show to set aside free time for, with out distractions. And just enjoy.
