Flight World War II (2015)
Loved it
I love Asylum pictures, I will take an Asylum film over a Hollywood blockbuster any day, Asylum are good fun that you don't need to take seriously, most Hollywood films are over expensive, driven by very average fx and rarely character driven anymore, oh and almost no good story, ill stick with these films, also being a film maker i love the fact that they are willing to give it a go and not afraid to try something new unlike Hollywood who are only capable of doing remakes, i wont say reboots because they are crap remakes.
The issue for Asylum is budget but they are NOT in the market to make 300 million dollar epics, but then nor are Hollywood any more, they do cheap fun entertainment, this is of course my opinion only.
Flood (2007)
I liked it
I enjoyed this film because i didn't take it that seriously, good cast, British made, but my problem isn't with the film, the actors, the effects or the script, its with people comparing it to massive budget American crap like the day after tomorrow, we are force fed that crap and expected to accept it as quality film making and when a little film comes out over here then its a copy and therefore crap, what about all the really crap remakes that Hollywood are doing because they are afraid to make something new or original, all films made on blue or greens screens and created in a computer so no real effort is put in, maybe the people who slated Flood should watch it again as they are probably American and 12 years old and know less about film making than Hollywood do, I would rather watch this than transformers which is an insult to anyones intelligence over 17 years old.
Black Angel (1980)
masterpiece
i remember it with empire strikes back but i saw it in London as well playing in front of firefox, i remember about 2 seconds of this film but so want to see it again, lets hope it turns up somewhere :)... The only part i remember is a long shot of the knight on a horse facing some sort of enemy, and the knight drowning but apart from that, nothing at all, i know i need to see this again as it made a lasting impression on me as a kid, if anyone has the rights to this small lost masterpiece then do the right and honourable thing, release it as an extra with something else i think it would do well on a DVD, I for one would go out and get it just for that extra...
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Oh the inhumanity of it all... again
And here we go again, yet another remake of a classic that's not only missed the point but so wide of the mark that its out of the park...
A few points, Reeves as Klatu worked for me, Gort was far too big and looked like he was from some game for pc or other consul, very nice big fx shots but for the most of it, completely unnecessary, it missed the 'demonstration' to earth, there was no real tension, its like a lot of modern remakes, they look cg now, they look like there a video game, maybe that's the appeal to the younger generation to go see this stuff, I doubt most that liked the remake would like the original version and there are always a few who will think the remake is the original...
Now I expect I will have a few people rad this and moan at me for even saying such things but everyone likes different things in a film, me, I like story, plot, development, cg is great if its not used to completely disguise the fact that's its a poor film.
So on that basis I only give it a 2 rating, it really is a shame because it could have been so much better...
