The Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew (1983)
It's a real 'Cult Classic', eh?
Much like Tremors, and Rocky Horror, some people Love this film, some people Hate this film, the rest haven't seen it yet. If it doesn't strike a cord with you you are not alive. I personally, am one of the lucky few who think this film is fantastic, and even have a whole group of friends who agree! Remember, you have to be in the right mindset to watch this. Rent Canadian Bacon, and Slap Shot first, and you should be primed for the 'coup de gras' with this classic flick (little french-canadian for you there, eh). -Shawn
American Flyers (1985)
Interesting film on dealing with a death in the family
This is a movie I truly enjoyed, both for the excitement of competition when I first saw it, and now for it's dealing with the many different possible reactions to a death in the family. This is a film I would not be surprised to hear was shown in a 'health class' or 'religion' class when dealing with Death and Dying. It would compliment the film 'Stealing Home' nicely in this manner. Regardless it is a great family film, the language is reasonable, there is little 'adult' content with virtually no nudity (tasteful and appropriate, but not none). Additionally it deals with the always timely issue of the Olympic competitions, and the policies surrounding them. I would recommend this film to just about anyone.
Jake Speed (1986)
A tongue in cheek look at paperback novels.
Ever wonder where the ideas for romance novels and other paper back released come from? According to 'Jake Speed' they are based on real people, living out the adventures they write about and publish. This movie is quality family entertainment, moderate amounts of violence, and skimpy clothes at the worst. The language is is also not a problem, and the jokes are funny at all levels. This is a 'Austin Powers' look at 'Indian Jones', without the over-the-top antics of Michael Myers. I highly recommend this film for kids in the 10 to 15 range.
Honeymoon Academy (1989)
Enjoyable Family Film
This is an enjoyable family film with the 'retired spy' plot line. Much like true lies in reverse the husband finds out he has married a 'retired' spy. Shockingly, to her and her husband, she is on another case when she intended to be honeymooning. Fun for the whole family, a timeless piece.
