Barsaat Ki Raat (1960)
a true classic
Last night i got a chance to watch this movie. The movie was one of the biggest hits at the box-office in 1960. So i was expecting a lot. And surely this movie has not disappointed me. The characters were good and performance was so nice. Everybody was trying to outdo each other in performance. There are at least two good reasons to watch this under-appreciated gem of a film. Firstly it offers three notably strong female characters, superbly played by talented actresses. Secondly it has a memorable score, with lyrics by the great Sahir Ludhianvi (an Urdu poet), sung by a stellar list of playback singers, and culminating in a series of dazzling qawwali performances (of love-saturated and Sufi-inflected couplets on the pleasures and pains of love) that are among the best ever filmed. But you have to know Hindi and Urdu words to appreciate the dialogues.
Ek Se Bure Do (2009)
utter nonsense
This is one comedy movie that doesn't make you laugh. 'Ek Se Bure Do' is a terrible movie. Problems with 'Ek Se Bure Do' are aplenty with the biggest being that there is no storyline whatsoever. The director would struggle if asked to give a two line synopsis of the film.
The film has a treasure hunt as the central theme but not once in the film does one see anyone going after the treasure. They're all after a map that leads to a mysterious treasure and try outwitting each other through the film. The second half is somewhat taken from Andaz Apna Apna.Rajpal Yadav and Arshad Warsi are wasted. Don't know what makes them sign this movie. Just don't even dare to think of wasting your precious time, money and energy on this one.
Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963)
truly refreshing classic from 60s...
A beautiful romantic comedy movie remembered for number of melodious songs which remain popular today. After Paying Guest (1957), this is the best known Dev Anand - Nutan vehicle. The movie is about two feuding millionaires, Seth Karamchand (Chattopadyaya)and Lala Jagannath (Prakash) who want to build their house in front of each other. Jagannath's son architect Rakesh Kumar (Dev Anand ) is commissioned to construct both houses. In addition he falls in love with Karamchand's daughter Sulekha (Nutan) & both do their best to hide from their parents. Finally after a lot of drama (handled well) the two rivals get together for their children. Omprakash, Nootan's father & the Dev's mother are just hilarious. Specially Dev's mother has done a great job. Their fights in auction, in the society/club election are of great entertainment. All in all a frothy musical comedy with some classic hits such as 'Dil Ka Bhanvar Kare Pukar' & 'Yeh tanhai Hai' etc. Each one is truly refreshing. 'Dil ka bhanwar' is my all time favorite.
