Easy Rider - this is not .......
29 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I have just seen a quite unusual movie. Two Lane Blacktop came out in 1971 and I first thought that it was some kind of 'Easy Rider' copy, but I was quite wrong. As a road movie, it is a bizarre experience, that follows two drifters cross the United States in an upgraded 55 Chevrolet challenging other drivers for drag races as they progress east. They take on a drifter girl along on the road and agree to a west to east race with a slimy character in a GTO. All this happens in a weird atmosphere with the bare minimum of dialogue. This is paired together with an absence of purpose and direction. They seem to be in a race, yet they don't seem to strive towards their goal , the end of the movie is so telling of this tendency, it didn't almost surprise me any more. An interesting movie, but not to my taste. 5,8/10 " - rogdie

Another Day, another re-boot
28 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It is beyond me why suddenly there has been a need to reboot franchises, hit movies and TV series. Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Fantastic Four all have gone through the motions, and Hit-man, after a first promising outing in the shape of Timothy Olyphant suffered the same fate. So here we are again, Rupert Friend has shaved his head and the body count may begin. Hannah Ware offers a very acceptable female lead. The story is almost secondary to the action, suffice to say that it is quite easily forgettable. The action and gunfights are very well done, bad marks though to the writers who at first seem to make Hit-man a bad guy. 6,8/10 " - rogdie

Variations on Indiana Jones
27 April 2016
Flynn Carsen is a perennial student, but for his first job application, he will get the job of his lifetime : The Librarian. He will be the chief librarian of the biggest library in the world housing the most legendary artefacts known to mankind from the Excalibur sword, the Pandora box or the Holy Grail. But he shall also be the one roaming the world for lost or stolen artifacts transforming him into a real Indiana Jones type. With this TV movie, a series of TV movies and later on a TV series were created but the first movie introduces as to all the excitement of the librarian's job description. Don't mind the flaws in the technical effects, just enjoy the adventures of Noah Wyle as the Librarian on his quest for the Spear of Destiny. 8.3/10 " - rogdie

New York , London, Barcelona, Allen keeps doing the same movies
1 January 2010
When I sat down for Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I had already read several critics praising his latest masterpiece and I was hoping to enjoy this one, especially since Scarlett Johansson appeared for the 3rd time in an Allen picture and she has been always a favorite of mine. Alas, I must confess that it took me 3 tries to watch the movie through as I was really a bit bored about the story, the acting and most of all , about this 'nerving' narrator. While the picture is very nicely photographed and shot around Barcelona and the actors give their best, especially Javier Bardem, the story in my view never takes off and in the end i kept myself asking questions about what was the message that the movie tried to convey.

There have been Allen Movies I really loved , Radio Days being my favorite, but this one is not my choice of viewing
