Dakteo Yibangin (2014)
Too Long. Boring.
What I really did not like was the entire storyline that was just too long 20eps! And story dragged on and I simply lost interest. I fast fowarded the last 3eps, just to know who the lead ended up with and alas, to the aka Han who for some reason walks and moves in slow motion arrgghh... I'm a fan of Jongsuk but the character he portrayed here is just, Im sorry, dumb. It has so much potential for a better story (genius doctor who can diagnose by touching) but having such a traumatic past and emptiness it was hard to connect with his funny demeanor, plus his obsession to his lost girl is just stupid and unrealistic. However, rest of the hospital supporting characters were quite good and likable.
The politics story were predictable hence boring, unnecessarily long.
So after getting tired of lead characters dumbness, I stopped hoping for a good ending. If the lead ended up with the Dr. Oh that would have been so much better, otherwise just a vanilla love story.
W - Du gaeui segye (2016)
Great Fantasy Series.
If you do not like comic fantasies this is not for you. I am not a comic aficionado but I appreciated the plot twists. This is like those times after reading or watching a fictional story and you wonder how it would be like to be in their world, this would be it. An imagination on tv screen. Its fresh and different so watch it with an open mind to like it.
However Korean cliches were still there: hand-grabbing, angles of kissing where a love song just suddenly plays. But overall, the plot was quite good! No overacting thank goodness.
And mind you, Jung sook looks like a comic character he almost looks unreal. Yoon ah acting could have been better but no big deal, they looked good enough to execute a well-made series.
Let Me Be Your Knight (2021)
Quite good so Just watch it.
Are you tired of those cheesy idol kdramas? Before you give up on them make sure you see this and I feel you'll add it in your kdrama list.
Well-acted and edited. No overacting or too much drama. Characters are likable. Styling is not over the top, ie makeup and clothing/costumes.
Even the music are all nice and enjoyable, not too repetitive except one OST that have to be their main song. So all good.
Storyline is light. Not too deep and its easy to follow so this is something that would not stress you out because an actor or scene is overbearing.
If you are bingeing on a weekend, this would be the perfect series to watch.
Love and Leashes (2022)
Hilarious. Corky but Sexy.
Watched it because of Lee Jun-young and no regrets!. Frankly speaking 50 shades was so exaggerated for me I hated it, (Im no fan of BDSM). However this movie was surprisingly funny and fun to watch. So hilarious!!
I liked the romantic side of it and the chemistry of actors were perfect. Nice story and well-acted by the cast. I appreciated that there were no nudity (they kissed only once) but still managed to portray a sexy vibe and got to the point of the story.
I didnt like the explanatory side of it but no big deal. I would have loved seeing more of them dating but then thats just me being cheesy. Will most likely watch it again.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Still Good, Remains Best Star Wars Series
Not sure about the recent negative reviews. I have seen S1 and S2 and recently S3 and I think the story just progresses and the each season gets better. I liked that Grogu went back to Din Djarin (I had to watch Bobba Fett first to know how). I also loved the eps when the Mandalorians banded together especially the last eps. Great action sequence there! So its an entertaining show as it should be. Some reviewers just get too hung up with the complexities or surprises they forget to enjoy a really good show and just like to criticize.
I have seen all the Star Wars TV series except the animated ones, and the Mandalorian is still the best, followed by Andor. Obi Wan was just okay but thats a different topic.
Can't wait for season 4 to come out!
Seungriho (2021)
Fun to watch
Overall this movie was well made. Korean actors are excellent, the rest were just average but I liked the idea of different languages communicating with each other--a feel of unification in a disjointed world we live in.
Action sequence were very good. Unlike the review I read earlier that the characters were unlikable, in fact the lead Korean actors reminds me of the team in Aliens Resurrection or Pitch Black so they grow on you as the story progress.
The plot may not be unique but have its own twists and edge. Pretty right mix of comedy . The space battles are impressive too, its no George Lucas creation but I would add this in my best space movie list.
Watch it if you like simple feel good action movies. No fuss, complicated storylines or overacting.
Taeyangeui huye (2016)
Excellent!
I like this better than Crash Landing on You because the acting here were very good, the leads and supporting Korean actors, while CLOY male lead was annoyingly stiff and others were loads of overacting. Song-Song chemistry is perfect and cringy-good. Beautiful couple--too bad they divorced in real life later. However Some characters were unnecessary I think, I feel they were inserted for the sake of having more popular korean actors in it. Anyhow no big deal.
Cinematography,, backdrops were stunning, I think they shot scenes in Greece. Effects were not perfect but considering this was produced 7 years ago, still its not a big deal. I have seen worse special effects on recently made series.
Plot, well, for 16 episodes this series definitely not boring. It covered so many topics such as social pressure, harassment at work, terrorism, earthquake, epidemic, politics, live triangle etc. Its not that every episode had one story but instead the story flowed smoothly making the whole kdrama experience entertaining. Glad I watched it!
Divorce Attorney Shin (2023)
Youre new favorite Uncle in the house!
This series will give you good vibes for sure. Its a courtroom drama but not so much drama with just the right comedy. Like the title says, its all about divorce cases. It has its usual korean cliches but quite bearable. What I liked the most is the friendship of these three middle-aged men. Attorney Shin is my absolute favorite uncle, in fact I would love them 3 to be my uncles. They're so cool when all together and even individually. I'm on episode 6 so I'm hoping it doesn't go downhill like a lot of kseries. Similar to Attorney Woo, this is quite entertaining and doesn't give you depressing vibes.
Love to Hate You (2023)
Enjoyable really
I only know few popular korean actors so the stars here are unfamiliar to me, however they are quite very good I have to say.
The female lead character was kind of unbelievable, like a superwoman, doing everything you can think of (I wouldnt be surprised she cooks well too). I think they've put too much super-ness on her. The male lead, quite the common male superstar actor, so hes quite realistic and managed to balance the development of the story.
What makes this also enjoyable to watch is because the actors were not by typical romcom young korean actors, but by mature ones and they still came out funny, I think theyre mid-30s to 40s.
Overall, I think this is an entertaining series, binged on it in fact. Better than "Business Proposal" and "Shooting Stars" in terms of acting and story.
Sangsogjadeul (2013)
Twas OK
Watching this after a lot of other kdrama bingeing, this is just okay for me. Since I saw this 9 years later, and comparing it to other kseries released recently, it was a lot of cringe from me.
Acting was quite good, young and adult characters. Music was annoying though, "love is the moment" was too much and repetitive.
Story was good, Lee Min Ho's character and story development was smooth though I feel the LA chance meeting was too short to develop any deeper feelings for a guy helping out a stranger for two days. Park Shin Hye's acting was actually quite good, it was natural and no overacting, however I felt her script or character development was not written well as she always acted safe with the male lead in LA and then clueless/annoyed after reuniting in Korea. I mean, I felt Lee Min Ho's acting showed his affection to the female lead from the beginning but Park Shin Hye was nothing but frowning/unwelcoming then suddenly she's all emo over him in episode 9-10. I was like, I cant figure her out. I felt her acting centered too much on her family drama it failed to balance the romance part of her story which was the main thing. I guess script lacked parts of expressing her affections to the male lead--or maybe because she does not have any female friends where she can openly talk about her secrets or love.
The rest of the episodes are cliche. It was predictable but it was not bad.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
This is so good!
Not sure why the low rating. I love the LOTR and Hobbits. But this is a TV series. Having said that, this is still quite very good and entertaining and I really enjoyed it. Its an expounded version of the rings story so expect more characters, more stories. The setting, costumes/makeup were excellent its like watching a movie every episode, they really invested so much on it.
What I kept doing throughout watching was I keep connecting the series to the trilogies. The main characters: Galadriel, Elrond, Sauron...the whys and so far the series have answered them somehow but still leaves you wondering for more, probably left for later...
Like any other first seasons, it will ask you to wait for more. Anyway, I cannot wait to watch the second season of this--I hope not too long like other series that takes a year to wait, arghhh!
Haepiniseu (2021)
If you are looking for a zombie horror series...
This is not Walking Dead or Train to Busan or the likes. Its a drama about humility and social pressures. For me, the zombie/virus part was a bonus.
The gore and action was enough, the story kept me wondering what each characters would do in the situation they are facing. You will love or hate them hence it kept me watching. For me, not boring.
All the actors are so good. Not much lovey-dovey between Hyung Sik and Hyo Joo, I guess it was something I would have asked if given the chance however this is not a love story either. Music, make-up, sound were spot on. Overall, I love it and will watch it again for sure.
Dalui Yeonin - Bobogyungsim Ryeo (2016)
Depressing but Still Thumbs Up!
I can write plenty of good words for this series. It was wonderfully made, cinematography, costumes, make up, effects. The actors played their parts really well, So, Jeung and Haesu made me cry few times.
The story is quite long and a lot of side stories as expected since it revolves around 7 princes and the female lead. Few plot holes and I wished the ending had been better.
And speaking of ending, for some reason it left me in a depressing disposition. Possibly because they tried to get it as close to true events, so the characters who would have made this series a happy ending are really non-existent so they had to get rid of them before the series end. Too much death and sadness. It does not give you a happy feeling after spending 20 hours watching.
However, I was glad to watch it since its highly rated and the actors are top-notch Korean artists.
Hwan Hon (2022)
Very Entertaining for Fantasy Fans
Love it! I saw this in Imdb as highly rated so I started watching without checking the trailers. I thought its another Joseon series and didnt expect harry potter-ish story which I liked. My husband who doesnt like fantasy series fell asleep on ep.1.
Each episode is more than 1 hour so it took awhile for me to finish each (Im still in ep.12 after 48hrs of binging). Though long, they are not boring!
Costumes are awesome, effects are cool, actors are familiar so they are quite entertaining and likable. No overacting or annoying acts. The story was bit confusing at first, it has a lot of stories going on at the same time but you get to catch up on them as the story progress. Even the names/places took me awhile to memorize and had to rewind few times (I used english subtitles) but thats just me.
Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da (2010)
Epic Thriller
I love suspense thrillers and this totally surprised me. When friends asked me if I have seen this and answered no, they were like: no way!
After watching it... Disturbing. This left me broken. Definitely left a mark after.
Excellent actors and very well made. Plot unique and twisted.
True classic.
Otsomae Bolkeun Kkeutdong (2021)
Artistic and Beautiful
After watching plenty of Joseon kdramas I have been curious of those pretty palace maids following royalties all the time. This tells their everyday life and hardships they face. Though its focused on the romance between a Prince and his palace maid, it also tell us the sufferings they go through to the extent of higher ranks using them as pawns for political gains.
Beautiful cinematography and costumes, sound/music were done really well. This is a real drama so theres not a lot of action scenes (dozed few times and had to rewind).
The lead actors have performed very well with no overacting--promising careers ahead of them for sure...special mention to Lee Jun Ho's performance. One of the best made historical dramas I have watched.
Byuti Insaideu (2018)
Just OK. Not Great.
The plot is quite interesting. Even music/sound are okay. Hyeon-jin was pretty good as well. But Min-ki is just dull and too stiff, not sure why his acting had to be that way, for this reason the leads lack chemistry. However, this is something I noticed in a lot of Korean actors. Good looking but impassive or lifeless acting--can the director realize it ruins the whole series? Aigo...
Geunyeoneun yeppeodda (2015)
Sorry but this is Awful
The story actually started out nice but the female lead unnecessarily overacts and its just so irritating. Kinda ruins everything. Plus she seem to be stupid to be working in the supposedly "Editing Team" even I would not be happy working with someone like that, she keeps making dumb moves and mistakes. I wish the writers did a better job in making her role more likable instead of annoying.
The rest of the cast are quite good though. I did not finish it, waste of time.
Haereul poomeun dal (2012)
Hate the Adult Casting
Casting was awful. Hate the adult female lead, she could not act. Her eyes look like its going to pop out of her sockets all the time, its annoying. Plus, she does not depict the young Yeo Woo, bright and wise. Adult Yeo Woo looked and act entirely different, dumb and defensive. There's no connection between the young and adult version I felt it turned to a different series.
The actors for the young versions are much better except Soo Hyun who is a very good actor in any given role. Adult Minhwa and Heo's pairing was not endearing, she looks way too young and hes too old to create a romantic story.
Plot is okay, story is slow. I've watched better Joseon series, this is not one of the best.
Shinibsagwan Goohaeryung (2019)
Watch It!
There is more than plenty of story going around in this series. Its very long but quite entertaining. Cast were excellent, Se-Kyung and Eun-Woo were adorable. Full of comedy and few dramatics especially at the end but very nice story overall.
Yeoshingangrim (2020)
Totally Hilarious
I totally loved this series, one of the best Korean romcom for me. I laughed so hard, mostly alone and felt like a psycho. Though the bullying parts were frustrating but overall this was not all about that. They tackled suicide, plagiarism, self-love, and family relationships hence not boring for me.
I loved the cast, the lead stars have great chemistry so loved them both instantly! Unni and Teacher was hilarious! Classmates/friends were very funny! Music was so good and not repetitive. Columbus Park was an added nonsense though.
Last 2 episode were slow but I felt it was mainly to wrap up the series. Anyhow, I highly recommended this and will definitely rewatch!
Nae Aidineun Gangnammiin (2018)
Funny and Simple Romcom
If you wanted to watch something light-hearted this works for you. No overacting or twisted plots. Its a simple romcom story.
I loved watching Eun Woo in Rookie Historian, he had this adorable aura in him and was surprised by his acting here. His character is cold and stiff. I wished he smiled more. Also, I would have preferred a better lead than Hyang Im, considering her role was "super pretty and sexy"-I dont find her that pretty here and thought other girls casted were a lot prettier.
Yeonmo (2021)
Highly Recommended!
Not a big fan of childhood sweethearts turning to adult love. Its just overused for me after watching a lot of kdramas so I did not like episode 1-2 but then the rest pretty much improved.
The bromance idea did made me cringe at first but how they have made it was really darling and hilarious, I found myself looking forward to what happens next. The cold and tough female lead while the male lead as the sensitive and affectionate one. Plus, its a good example of loving someone regardless of gender.
The story is pretty good as well. I liked that there were side stories that did not went on forever. Not boring at all.
The acting, I read reviews that Crown Price looked too feminine. Frankly, why make the Crown Prince look masculine? Would you prefer a bearded Crown Prince? Give me a break. It would overall ruin the pretty picture so Im happy with the female lead as it is. The rest of the cast, all great actors and fun to watch. Will watch it again for sure.
Yacha (2022)
Fine Action Film!
I dont understand of the low rating. I watched it because Jinyoung is in it as supporting but the cast are quite a spectacle altogether.
Its a mission impossible/james bond Korean version. All killing. No sappy moments, just serious action spy game story and very well made. No regrets watching it, in fact if they do another Yaksha I'll look forward to it.
Bombam (2019)
Very Touching Love and Family Drama
I loved SITR so I figured this would be good as well but after watching the first episode, I couldn't stop. Watched the entire 16 eps in 2 days. Frankly, its better than SITR. I beg to differ that the lead actors do not have chemistry because they do and so natural.
I would say this would be a story of 3 sisters, born in the upper class of the society so imagine the peer pressure, and taboos. Though it revolves more on the love story on Jeung-In the middle child, the other's sisters got me interested as well. The eldest as a victim of domestic violence and the carefree life of the youngest (her part got me cracking every time).
Overall plot was very put together, all the side stories are worth watching and not boring. I wish they would do season 2! Would love to see Eun-u meet his real mom and how Ji-ho and Jeung-in will handle it, Seo-in and the family facing challenges as single mom, did Gi-seok really moved on, Jae-in's boyfriend finally passing his civil service exam! Theres so much to look forward to.
