My Son Hunter (2022)
9/10
See this for Fox
14 September 2022
The facts, or the truth? Alternative facts - remember those? This may, or may not be the whole picture, but it's worth watching to see a great performance by Laurence Fox. He might be cancelled for his political views - but the fact is he is an amazing performer. Hunter Biden may be a morally corrupt individual, he certainly is no Saint, and he is painted here as an unpleasant narcissistic drug user. It's an interesting optic of a man in freefall, devoid of any guiding light. Fox brings this to life in spades. The reality is that Fox is nothing like Biden, and has entered the British political arena himself, while his acting career appears to be stalled. Gina Carano, herself no stranger to controvery with social media, breaks the 4th wall with great wit, and brings humour and physical presence to her part.

Rainy day at school.
13 September 2022
During a miserable wet day at school in the early 70's, we were herded into the school assembly hall after lunch, and some 6th formers put this film on the reel to reel projector. I was about 12 at the time. The film was amazing, fantastic scenery and a pretty girl driving an E-Type Jaguar. I don't recall any particular story line, just a lorry and the car overtaking each other. I loved the music and there wasn't any dialogue that I can recall. Sadly classes started before the film ended. I read that this was actually a promotional film from tyre maker Pirelli. I've looked for this film online with no luck. Strange how such a random film made such a great impression.

Prey (I) (2022)

A few easter eggs to please the fans!

The production values have been spent on the cinematography. No famous stars - the film works on its pedigree, and despite being the 7th incantation, does stand alone as a better than average Sci-Fi 'B' movie. A few nods to the franchise makes it more interesting than just a gore fest. Enjoy the scenery.

Enemy Mine (1985)
7/10
A little gem of a film, but a box office failure.

This is very much a character driven story that happens to be in space. Dennis Quaid, a jock fighter pilot, gets stranded on a planet and has to survive with a Drac enemy pilot, played majestically by an unrecognisable Louis Gossett Jr. A simple story that gets complicated by Gossett's character giving birth. This 40 million dollar film, directed evenly by Wolfgang Peterson, didn't make the impression it deserves. Worth watching as a SciFi standard.
