Highway to Heaven: Going Home, Going Home (1985)
Top five episode, but....
I really like this episode. The grandfather was played exceptionally well too. Great story here with plenty of emotional scenes. I would however like to point out one huge problem. As we would learn later this year, 1985, Doc Brown would warn of the very dangerous consequences of interacting with yourself when time traveling. Mark has extended conversations with himself and his grandpa over a couple of days. The space time continuum might be completely altered and destroy the universe. Or, it could all just be Mark's dream and everything is ok. On second thought, yeah pretty sure that's all it was. Haha.
Blue Bloods: Bones to Pick (2019)
Really, Baez? Really ??
Just saw this episode again on a channel I forget. This is such a good show. I like to binge watch often and really love the dynamic of Frank and his three loyal yet very strong charges. Ok back to this episode and my issue with it, albeit years after it initially aired. The men's club existed legally. They didn't require any females to sign off on it or voice their approval of it. When a woman dies there, Danny and Baez arrive to do their job. Good. But, Baez must start bashing them for being sexist? Why? Is this a dangerous medieval practice of having a men's only club? I thought it was ridiculous to have this character react this way. An odd reference here if I may. For those of you old enough to remember the 70s sitcom All In The Family, the main character was Archie Bunker and viewers usually referred to him as a bigot. My point here is that Archie's views were always intended to be wrong thinking while Baez's opinion here was intended to be righteous.
The Andy Griffith Show: The Bank Job (1962)
If Oscar The Grouch made your lunch
This is a great episode- one of my favorites because of the side banter between Barney and Asa about his old gun with green bullets. I also like that everyone knows that Barney will go to any length to get his point across. But I would just ask this one puzzling question about this episode: What in the holy heck is this God-awful meal that Andy suggested for Barney to have at lunch?
I can't remember it all but it was something like "get you a hollowed out tomato stuffed with avocado and raisins". This is pure puke but Andy said it was goooooooood. At least he had a sweet tea to wash it down, right ? Nope, lemon phosphate. Dear God in Heaven. Next you will tell me he had a big piece of pure lard pie for dessert.
Star Trek: Operation -- Annihilate! (1967)
Sorry, Spock.
This was a pretty good episode except for the part where McCoy shows us the absence of a Hippocratic Oath and First Do No Harm. Duplicating the conditions down on the planet's surface, namely the absence of eye protection was wildly unnecessary. Wasn't the goal here to rid the body of the parasite?
I don't think Spock wearing eye protection would have hindered that experiment.
Also, we all know that Kirk is an intergalactic jerk but to be so uncaring to his brother? His DEAD brother?
Kirk was truly Captain Ass yet again. But I have to ignore it as usual. Two thumbs up to Spock, McCoy and of course Uhura's skirt.
The Andy Griffith Show: Mayberry Goes Bankrupt (1961)
Mayor Pike
I just love the scene at the end where Andy is saying something silly to the Mayor and Mayor Pike just gives him this serious look as if "What the heck is the matter with you?" The mayor also gives him that same look in the barber chair in Season One The Beauty Contest episode when Andy insults the mayor's daughter. It is hilarious.
The Andy Griffith Show: The Manicurist (1962)
I really really like this episode
First things first. Barbara Eden is very possibly the most attractive woman that Mayberry has ever seen. Andy's line to her was right. She was extremely pleasant to look at from any direction. ( Gotta love the drums as she walked away down the sidewalk.)
Barney said he would treat her a little rough !! Wow !
Did I mention how gorgeous Ms Eden was in that vacuum sealed dress ?
The Andy Griffith Show: Andy and the Woman Speeder (1961)
Really, Barney ?
As some of the others have mentioned, this episode is not really one we needed. It is out of line with most every other episode with the way everyone treats Andy. Floyd, we can understand because, well, he is Floyd. Next is Opie. Again, he is a child but he willfully sided against his paw when he never did before or after. Then we get to Barney, the strictest by-the-book lawman ever. But what does he do? He stabs Andy in the back. Lastly, Aunt Bee saw this lady's scheme and did nothing. I mean, how the heck do you go on with the Sheriff's Dept or even be friends after this betrayal?
Batman: The Cat and the Fiddle (1966)
Catwoman ! Yes !!
Another great appearance by Julie Newmar. A really enjoyable episode here as usual whenever we get to see the catsuit.
A few things we notice in this episode. The giant magnifying glasses don't burn anything at first.
Next, the Bat Rope used to rescue Catwoman was perfectly tiny enough to cut her in half.
We also see a 26 year old James Brolin as a driver.
Lastly, in the Commissioner's office as Catwoman is walking away, Robin asks if they have seen the end of her. Seems like an innuendo as they were all watching her butt as she left !
The Andy Griffith Show: Back to Nature (1964)
Another ridiculous outing for Barney
Even though this is enjoyable to watch, it further shows how the writers didn't put very much thought into details. The gang hikes off into the woods and picks a random site........which happens to be accessible by pickup truck and a driver with ESP. (The man just easily drove right up INTO THE CAMPSITE for Pete's sake !!!). Gomer cooked a chicken that used to be a pheasant without killing it. After all, he said he plucked it and cooked it but didn't mention killing it. Remember, he's not an avid camper. Maybe he's a fan of cooking it alive !! Lol.
Also, they do even more damage to Barney by having him be even more inept.
The Andy Griffith Show: The Shoplifters (1964)
Curious dialogue at the end
This is a great episode. Like the others, I also enjoyed the gossip between Andy and Barney. I am curious about one thing there near the end. After the little old lady produces her Bible and seemingly gets exonerated for a moment, Andy scolds Barney outside. Then Andy says something odd. He says, "Barney, don't go. I've got a line on a suspect myself and there's our man now". Why didn't Andy just say "Barney, here she comes. We can get her now that she's outside."
Andy made it sound like he had another suspect that was a man. Just odd.
The Andy Griffith Show: A Date for Gomer (1963)
Two things to say....
First, is it ever an issue when the script calls for an ugly woman and actresses try out for the part? I mean, do they have to agree that they themselves really are ugly in order to land the role?
Second, here we go again with Helen instantly becoming furious with Andy for no reason whatsoever and the man sits there and takes it. I mean, Gomer left but that's somehow Andy's fault? Andy should have said, " Helen, you can go get lit on moonshine up in the woods with the Darlings and never come back. I kinda hope they marry you off to Ernest T. That's how hateful you are to me "
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.: Lou-Ann Poovie Sings No More (1967)
Beautiful and grating
I live in the south and I assure you nobody down here has that accent. Lol. She talks like Scarlet O'Hara at the orthodontist with mouth wide open and full gas.
The Twilight Zone: A Nice Place to Visit (1960)
Swing and a miss
At the end, Rod Serling claims that our guy is in the Twilight Zone. The plot results in the guy being in hell. Does the TZ have a deep corner that goes down that far ?
The Andy Griffith Show: Aunt Bee's Brief Encounter (1961)
Hooterville, here I come !!
Aunt Bea was very close to leaving Mayberry in this one. Andy would have dropped her off at the depot and soon she would have been on the Cannonball rolling into H-Ville with Uncle Joe, who is still moving slow at the junction. Haha.
The Andy Griffith Show: Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee (1962)
Cough cough cough
Just watched this episode and couldn't help but notice that there is A LOT OF SMOKING !! I almost expected Aunt Bee to produce a pack of Lucky Strikes and Opie to pull out a bubble gum cigar ! I just cringed when Fred Goss flicked his ashes onto Otis's suit. Just so nasty but I get it I suppose.
The Andy Griffith Show: Man in a Hurry (1963)
Hello Gomer
We should all be thankful that Jim Nabors changed his Gomer voice after this because it just sounds so wrong. I know it's because we later heard the voice we came to know and love but this first version is quite strange to hear.
The Andy Griffith Show: Cousin Virgil (1962)
Oh come on !
It's hard to watch a character this worthless and ridiculous, especially when it's on the best tv show ever. Pollard's character makes Barney look like Bogart. And the smiling....ughhhhhh.
The Munsters: Hot Rod Herman (1965)
Grandpa's stuntman
Have you ever noticed that when he first drives Dragula out of the garage, he nearly ran over both Eddie AND the steps. Old Grandpa could have done that himself ! Haha.
The Andy Griffith Show: The Great Filling Station Robbery (1963)
Early Gomer
We are all thankful that Jim Nabors abandoned his early Gomer accent for the one we all now know.
It just seems weird hearing him experimenting that version.
The Andy Griffith Show: Stranger in Town (1960)
Barney and Floyd
To me, this is maybe the funniest line ever in TAGS by any character:
Barney Fife: Next time I want a haircut, I'm gonna stick my head in a pencil sharpener.
Floyd the Barber: Yes, sir, and it'll fit, too.
The Andy Griffith Show: High Noon in Mayberry (1963)
This one line by Barney...
"y'all can talk about all the fun you used to have shooting him in the leg"
Easily in the top five funniest lines ever spoken on TAGS by any character.
The Andy Griffith Show: Andy Discovers America (1963)
Introducing....The Angry Ice Queen From Hateville, NC
Helen is always completely going off so rude and hateful to Andy literally every chance she gets.
Why did they want her to be hated so bad? Did Ms. Corsaut like the way Helen was a hate-filled ice monster? Peggy was gorgeous. Helen should have been in only this one episode, and Andy has her fired for being a danger to the school.
The Andy Griffith Show: The Perfect Female (1961)
Worst TAGS episode of them all
Ok, so in this episode we meet yet another of Thelma Lou's hundreds of relatives. This one happens to be from Arkansas. Andy is paired up with her and he enjoys her company. He really likes that they both have things in common, one of them being shooting. Sharon is not just a mere fan of shooting. No, she's a champion shooter and she deceptively keeps this from Andy. Shady. To cut to the chase, this woman gets fully outraged when she finds out that Andy likes her. She puts a feminist spin on this by stating that Andy judged her and approved of her. This somehow is a bad thing when meeting a stranger. Apparently it would have been better if Andy had said "We don't like Arkansas hogs here and you sure are one big Razorback...and you're ugly too". But no, Andy is polite and cordial and all it gets him is her feminist wrath. I understand that Andy is the boss of this show and he definitely approved of this script. I also get that it was the early 60s and not 2023 but I still don't get her outrage. There was zero misogyny and he was never condescending to her. It's the only episode I refuse to ever watch again.
