The Walking Dead: Outpost 22 (2022)
Barely intelligible
They've really given up on the audio post, haven't they? This is the worst dialogue I've heard in a long time. Perhaps they couldn't afford to ADR. I can hear the noise reduction but I still can't hear all the words. It's not that hard, but it does take a budget and it's clearly not going on the audio. I'll just repeat all that to make up the quota: They've really given up on the audio post, haven't they? This is the worst dialogue I've heard in a long time. Perhaps they couldn't afford to ADR. Aftertaste (2021)
Food ain't funny
The fatuous bourgeois obsession with food permeates everything else; can't it leave comedy alone? I watched this in support of Australian content, the pursuit of humour, and a familiarity with the location. But I couldn't last the distance. Strong characters, competent writing, good performances (Tim Carroll is priceless) and great scenery still couldn't save it from the insufferable foody-ness. When your humour relies on belittling a character for their perceived ineptitude in the kitchen, you've lost me.
Dark (2017)
Intense but worth the effort
This is a gripping, complex tale but is rewarding in its deft handling of paradoxical concepts. A couple of little bugbears for me. Does anyone actually wake from a bad dream by sitting up violently, panting for breath? I've never done it, nor do I know anyone who has. It only happens in film (a lot). Also, the dreadful music montage with a bunch of visual story elements strung together over some cool commercial music track. So, so tired. Lose these clichéd tropes and it would lift the show a notch above other, similar offerings. There's no rule book, so stop trying to follow one!
From There to Here (2014)
Unsatisfying
Good premise, poorly realised. Curiously unbelievable dialogue. A great cast do their best but the words aren't there.
Treadstone: The Bentley Lament (2019)
Cheap device
An acid trip to make Bentley remember so we get the backstory? That is just a dreadful artifice.
