V/H/S Viral (2014)
Just kinda sad
As most people said, the first two segments were fine at the least but as soon as the third segment came it just turned awful. As well as all of the bad cgi effects throughout the movie it's like they didn't really care about making this one and I was sorta disappointed. I suggest skipping this one it's just not worth it.
Tape 407 (2012)
not that bad
Movie about a plane that crashes into a secret military base filled with the unimaginable and survivors must fight their way to freedom? Sounds interesting but this movie did that and made it slow and boring.
It's an example of a good idea done wrong. I like the acting and it shows that the people in this movie are truly fighting for their lives but their characters are just annoying.
The cgi dinosaurs look bad and I swear they used a cardboard cutout of a dinosaur when you see one of the constant few frames of dinosaur shots.
Near the ending where the man shoots the two girls so make sure their information never goes to the public honestly got me and is probably one of the best scares in this movie besides the one where Lois gets pulled in by a dinosaur, but when the dumb dinosaur comes out of nowhere and kills the man it just feels really forced.
Overall, this film could be so much better if done correctly.
Broadcast Signal Intrusion (2021)
A mans search for lost media
Good enough movie in the style of 90's thriller mystery. I enjoyed most parts but some parts just felt weirdly cut sometimes. I overall really liked the story too and what it's based off of. It's also really interesting sometimes. I got genuinely unnerved near the end. Felt like some scenes were a little bit drawn out at times but It's fine.
Not a masterpiece in my eyes but I still enjoyed this thriller. 8/10.
V/H/S/2 (2013)
Safe haven saved this film
This film is admittedly better than the first V/H/S film, which is rare for most found footage horror movies. The story is much better and actually gives us a reason to watch the tapes. The quality in this one is also a lot more nicer and you can tell they really put effort into the gore
I'm not going to sit here and rate every tape like a stinky but there's one called "safe haven" which is absolutely insane with how much effort is put into it, And there's also one called "slumber party alien abduction" which is boring so you can just skip go the end of the movie there
Overall i enjoyed the work 9/10.
Area 51 (2015)
it's ok
A lot of filler in the beginning but overall you tell tell that they at least tried and put effort in most parts. It's a movie where you probably wouldn't watch it more than once. Rarely scared me but its pretty suspenseful.
As Above, So Below (2014)
the decent if they found footage movie
This movie is really good for found footage. The gore is impressive, the acting is good, and it has actually good and unpredictable jumpscares. Ending i thought was just a tiny bit underwhelming but i'm glad the three got out alive. I thought they would all die. Would recommend if you like cloverfield.
The Final (2010)
had so much potential but just ends up being edgy
I feel weirdly mixed about this movie so i'll just tell you the goods and bada in my opinion
goods: it's a unique idea, honestly. The plot is mostly 5 bullied outcasts. Get revenge on the bullies by torturing them and scaring them. It's nice at first where it introduces the bullies and their typical high-rocks high school personalities. The acting is ok, and there's a nice relationship between the black kid and the old man. There's also some very creative quotes and one liners. Also it was a nice surprise when one of emily kills dane, followed up with the other two outcasts killing themself.
Bad: it honestly just falls flat midway. The stock stan effects they use are bad, the characters just become edgy, all of the outcasts take their masks off for some reason, and the trailer kind of spoiled it for me. Don't hang up taught me that the beginning of a movie that seems unrelated or off always comes back, so i knew that the girl in the beginning was one of the bullies that got tortured.
Overall i would love to see a remake of this movie.
The Stairs (2021)
good in the beginning but then just kinda falls flat
Like most movies and shorts based on internet legends it's mediocre. The acting is mediocre, the editing is lame and cheap, but the ending was surprisingly really good and emotional and some of the scenes are really good at being intense. Would probably watch again if i was bored.
Cloverfield (2008)
underrated imo
I remember as a kid i was always scared to watch this movie but now watching it it's really good. Incredible acting, great characters which actual motivations and personalities, and a creative looking monster for it's time in my opinion. AND the beginning of the movie is filled with actually good characters introductions that don't feel like filler of a waste of time!
Escape Room (2017)
The agony of defeat
Typical physiological escape room movie where at the first death the women get all dramatic and emotional and the men get angry boy and stressed. The move feels either too slow like in the dinner scene or too fast like in the escape room where they then die way too quickly for my liking. Even if there's technically a 1 hour timer. One thing that pissed me off was that anderson got his foot STUCK in a clear VENT? How? That's stupid. Also the ending is kinda dogpoop but other review have talked more about that. Escape room 2019 is way more better than this and in more ways than one. While i appreciate the effort they put into this movie, it just falls flat in areas. The one good thing i can say about this movie is that the blood/gore is pretty goood imo.
Into the Dark: New Year, New You (2018)
surprised this is blumhouse but not in a good way
This movie is different than most blumhouse's movies, and honestly that's what gives it its own charm. It feels like a couple of girl pals wanted to make their own little quirky horror movie. Sure it may feel cheap at times but i also feel as that also gives it its charm. The acting is good at best. What kinda annoyed me is that both danielle and alexis look similar and i kept getting them mixed up but maybe i'm just dumb.
Into the Dark: The Body (2018)
surprisingly good especially for into the dark (spoilers)
Great acting, a great idea for a movie, and all of the acts never feel boring. Tom Bateman was perfect for the tough guy hitman role. The ending genuinely suprised me too. Though i felt like maggie could've done something cool with the body instead of just leaving it there on the ground but that's just me. Would recommend.
12 Hour Shift (2020)
watchable, predictable, forgettable.
Found myself laughing at the country slang sometimes but this movie just kinda avoids a lot of things that make horror horror. Also i like how they filmed this in an actual hospital but the movie still feels cheaps and the acting isn't all that great. The ending wasn't awful but it could've been done with just a little bit more care. Over i'd probably watch it again though.
