Gabriel's Rapture: Part Two (2022)
Passionflix, you're killing me!
This story is killing me, and I need all of the series movies now! Hahahha!
I'm an avid romance lover, and occasionally enjoy a good, darker, "I know it's going to torture me but make it a happy ending please!" story, but I'd never read this series. Then one day, YouTube threw a Gabriel/Julia fan reel at me and peaked my interest enough to ask "who the heck are these people?". Three days and one very uncomfortable COVID experience later, I'd purchased a Passionflix membership, binged all 4 movies, and 2 days later, the 5th (this one). And now I'm stuck in a deep rabbit hole of "when is the next one coming out!?!" Hahahha
Cause here's the thing, the source material is OK. Not my preferred style, but I can see the bones. But Passionflix have really elevated the content in my opinion. Beautiful scenery, heartfelt leads, intense stares *sigh*. It's not Academy stuff, but it's damn addictive! And as someone who doesn't often get to see my preferred reading content turned into live action, I'm actually pretty thrilled! But now I'm stuck! Because although I've now read the whole saga.... I still REALLY want to see these films!
Can't wait for more. Thank you so much to all involved! And a particular thanks to Passionflix for producing this type of content in a tasteful way, and promoting women in the industry in the process. I'm very happy about supporting this production house.
Gabriel's Rapture: Part One (2021)
Fans will love it
I really can't account for the hate this series is drawing, so throwing my 2c in here. The story is what it is. It hasn't spontaneously changed from the start. It's about two fairly damaged individuals with a passion for each other and Italian romantic studies. She's youngish and carries exactly the sorts of behaviours you'd expect of someone with her history. He's a mess, and exactly as intense as you'd expect a tortured hero from this genre to be.
The actors have chemistry in spades! Though I'm landing a fair bit of that credit at the male leads doorstep because Lord! The production is beautiful to watch. Come on... Italian vistas! And the passion on screen puts most others I've seen (including 50 Shades) to shame. It's just so beautifully done, with heart and soul.
The story is a torturous tale of human failings and redemption, and having now read the source material (because I've become obsessed with this story now I'm neck deep in it and needed to know what came next hahah!), I feel Passionflix have really elevated the content, and given it depth and beauty I found hard to extract from the original books.
All in all, if this type of story is your thing, I think you'll enjoy it. And if it's not, maybe don't denigrate the folks who are just so grateful to see a production house devote genuine effort in realising their dreams of seeing adult erotic romances hit a screen at last. There's alot more topical commentary and societal reflection in this genre than is given credit.
Gabriel's Inferno: Part One (2020)
Took me two goes to appreciate it
This is not your standard quick watch romance. Think darker, complex, and hang on for a long ride. But I have to say, it's somehow addicting!
I'm a keen romance reader, but hadn't read this author before watching, although I've read it's ilk. Sometimes it's to my taste, other times less so. I have to say, I think Passionflix really elevated the content of this story with their beautiful production value. I fell completely in love with Italy, romantic languages (in the scholarly sense) and Dante! Which I really hadn't expected. What's particularly enjoyable is, because Passionflix seem to be kind of taking their time with the material (they're up to movie 5 so far!), you don't have that sense of being hurried along. Instead, it's more like a luxurious soak in a deep tub, you have no reason to rush and can just appreciate the sweeping vistas and complex character developments.
On first watching, the characters felt stilted and awkward, and I was questioning if I'd make it through, but having made it to the the end of the currently released series, and heading back for a rewatch, it actually kind of works! The characters are seriously awkward at the beginning... it just is what it is *shrug*. But somehow the buggers have just grabbed me by the heart strings and on this occasion, reading the source material just did not fill the gap... I need Passionflix to produce the rest of these movies already!!! Hahaha
There's nudity, although I'd say it's some of the most heart felt and tasteful sex scenes I've seen. But if that's not your thing, you may like to skip along a little. It does ease up as they progress, but Lordy, that man...*hot*!
The Matchmaker's Playbook (2018)
More fun than I'd imagined!
My biggest complaint.. we were teased for a second movie, but I can't see any sign if it ever getting made. And after the first, I'd have been well down for it!
Great premise, alot of heart, great character chemistry, which kept them all from becoming too characteristic, and a nice satisfying ending. The four friends group were just heaps of fun to watch! And the side characters were perfect too.
Haven't read the source material, but recognised the formula in the genre, and still really enjoyed the fresh life the cast and movie production group injected into it. Just thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you Passionflix!!
Tangled (2022)
Lovin' it!
First up, I have to say, thank you so much to Passionflix for producing this content. As a long time happy romance lover, it has been such a joy to stumble on the platform, and I can't wait to see what they do into the future!
Really enjoyed this movie! It was sharp, clever, and had me laughing out loud. The male lead is of the "Lord let me smack him" variety, and the female lead was just perfect in every respect in my opinion, though perhaps more forgiving the most real women might be haha. I haven't read the source material so no clue how they stacked up there, but the formula was familiar in the genre and still really enjoyable. The kind of movie I'd buy to keep.
Lots of entertaining side characters, from his group of friends to her kick ass rocket scientist friend, and extra points to the niece who stolen the show hahhaha!
Bless you all for making a fun, sexy, thoroughly feel good movie for me to enjoy just as COVID finally hit me and I REALLY needed cheering up!
