Breaking Bad: Gliding Over All (2012)
The Perfect Breaking Bad Episode
Gliding Over All is the best episode of Breaking Bad. It's phenomenal. The action, the drama, it's perfection in 3 Acts. There's the Cold Open, with Todd meeting with Walt in his office, and Jesse negotiating with Walt. Then in Act 1, Dennis meets with the DEA, Walt meets up with Lydia, and then with Uncle Jack. And in Act 2, you have the Prison Killings, Walt talking to Hank, the Crystal Blue Persuasion scene, and the family meeting with Skyler, Marie, and Walt Jr. And finally, in Act 3, Skyler discovers the money pile, Walt gets an MRI, then he and Jesse reminisce about the RV and then he gives Jesse that duffle bag full of money, and finally, there's the pool party where Hank connects the dots. Flawless episode. Best 47 minutes in TV history. Although not the greatest episode, it's easily the best. It's also the last episode where Walt cooks meth. Plus, every member of the main cast appears in this episode, and the critical reception for the episode is overwhelmingly positive. It's perfect. Ozymandias is nothing compared to this. And the cherry on top is that it's the midseason finale.
P. S I've watched all 62 Episodes (plus El Camino), and this is the best one I've seen. Just in case you thought this was as far as I got into the series, or I just skipped over to this episode.
Comedy Central Roasts: Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner (2006)
Great Roast, Horrible Crowd.
I love this roast, and it could have been easily top 5. I've never seen it full, because Paramount+ cut a large portion of it out, but from what I've seen, it's a great roast. There's just one reason why it isn't Top 5, though. The crowd. Oh, the crowd. They were basically silent the whole time. If this roast had a crowd like the roast of Flavor Flav, it would have been easily top 5. I'm not doing a roaster-by-roaster review of this roast. I just want to talk about the crowd. Why was this crowd basically silent? This was one of the greatest roasts ever. And it's insane that the crowd at this roast was virtually silent, when the crowds at the roasts of Bob Saget and James Franco, both godawful roasts, were loud as hell. I love this roast, but the crowd was the worst.
Comedy Central Roasts: Bob Saget (2008)
Overrated Is An Understatement
I can't believe I used to have this in my top 5.
Despite being considered the greatest roast of all time by a bunch of nostalgic 40-year-olds, this roast sucks. I don't get the love for this roast, it's unfunnier than unfunny. Especially Norm, Jeff Garlin, and Jim Norton. So here's another in-depth, roaster-by-roaster review of this 65-minute disaster. Greg Giraldo had probably his worst performance (by that, I mean least good), Jon Lovitz threw hacky gay jokes everywhere (pot calling the kettle black, if you ask me), Jeff Ross did his usual thing, Susie Essman felt like a cameo, despite having one of the best sets of the roast, Brian Posehn was alright at best, Cloris Leachman just bragged about all the old comics she's "done the dirty with" (thanks, iMDB censors), Norm MacDonald literally read corny jokes off a card set, Jeff Garlin was terrible (he's basically roast poison), Jim Norton was unbearably unfunny and bland, and Gilbert Gottfried, despite having his worst roast set, saved this roast. Roastmaster John Stamos was really only there because he's Bob's friend and Full House costar and for no other reason. Bob Saget's comeback set was one of the greatest ever, though, so I'll give it that, but this roast is overrated and horrible, but somehow it's not the worst. James Franco is. The weird thing is, the dais didn't feature any of Saget's other costars, just a bunch of comics nobody cares about anymore (besides Norm, Gilbert, and Jeff Ross).
#trash #overrated #unfunny.
Comedy Central Roasts: Comedy Central Roast of James Franco (2013)
WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS
This roast SUCKS. It's an absolute bomb. Anyone who gives this roast a rating higher than 5/10 is untrustworthy. There were only like 4 sets that were even worthy of laughter. Almost everybody was terrible. Nick Kroll was a travesty of magnificent proportions, Jonah Hill was insufferable, Bill Hader was mid, Andy Samberg had one funny joke, and Aziz Ansari was trash. You know a roast is bad when both the roastmaster and honoree bombed. Seth Rogen, I assume had at least 35 edibles before the roast, and James Franco wasn't even funny. Sarah Silverman, Natasha Leggero, and Jeff Ross were the only saving graces of this absolute tragedy. Had it not been for the Boston Marathon Bombing, this would be the single worst thing to happen in 2013. This roast is a 3/10. Simple as that. Even a 4/10 is too high for this abomination. It's roasts like this that make me appreciate the older roasts like Shatner, Flavor Flav, and Joan Rivers. This roast was the worst thing to happen to Comedy Central since Mind of Mencia. WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE THIS ROAST?! I HATE MY SPECIES!
In summation, I award this roast no points and may God have mercy on its soul.
Comedy Central Roasts: Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav (2007)
Hilarious and Excellent
I absolutely love this roast. It's truly a great hour of television. It's my second favorite roast, second only to David Hasselhoff. I especially love the hilarious, gutbusting dark humor and just incredible jokes. Even though only two roasters didn't use scripts, it still manages to be one of the funniest TV specials ever. From start to finish, it's absolutely hilarious. Greg Giraldo got it off to an incredible start, Sommore killed, Jimmy Kimmel killed, and Ice-T killed. Jeff Ross did his usual thing, roasting the guest of honor, some people on the dais, some celebs in the audience, and then the guest of honor. Carrot Top owned it with the props, Brigitte Nielsen kind of slowed it down with her bombshell of a set, Patton Oswalt was funny, Snoop Dogg did incredibly well for his first roast, and Lisa Lampanelli was in a league of her own. Also Katt Williams was an amazing host. But it's really disappointing how mediocre Flavor Flav's revenge set was. He was basically just giving nicknames to like 5 people on the dais for 2 and a half minutes. But I still absolutely love this roast. It's incredibly laugh out loud hilarious and it's truly a top 3 roast all time, and it's 10 times better than Comedy Central's other roast of a famous musician with a black stand-up comic as roastmaster, the Roast of Justin Bieber.
Comedy Central Roasts: Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff (2010)
Absolutely Flawless
Everything about this roast is perfect. The dais, the stage, everyone brought their A game, it was hilarious the whole way through. I've seen it about 10 times on Paramount+ and it was hilarious every time. Every time it ends I feel somber, because it's just that damn good. Seth MacFarlane was a perfect host. No wonder he hosted the next two roasts. Lisa Lampanelli killed, as usual, George Hamilton was incredible, Jeff Ross was Jeff Ross, Hulk Hogan killed, Pam Anderson was great, Gilbert Gottfried did his usual thing, Jerry Springer was surprisingly good, Whitney Cummings had a great set like always, and Greg Giraldo closed it out in the best way possible. David Hasselhoff was amazing in his set, and finished in spectacular fashion with his bickering with KITT and performance of "This is The Moment". Absolutely flawless. I may seem biased, but I've had several favorites before this, but this one takes the cake. HEIL HASSELHOFF!
