Outlander: I Am Not Alone (2022)
Real Love
Like many, I enjoy all aspects of Outlander - history, time travel, action, and the beautiful cinematography. But what I appreciate most is showing a couple who has been married for decades still so incredibly in love. In love enough to want to protect each other, whether that be physically (all the rescues over the years) or psychologically (not wanting to burden the other with their pain). In love enough to trust each other fully and share the most intimate corners of themselves. And in love enough to face the cruelty of the outside world together, whether that be war and impending war or lies and rumors by a jealous (and ungrateful) community. The sex scene between Claire and Jamie in this episode was the most beautiful one I have ever seen on TV. It was NOT a sex scene thrown in just because (which seemed to be the case for Bree and Roger) but rather to show how, in the darkest times, they can be vulnerable with and draw strength from each other. I'm grateful that a show that has a lot of story to pack into 8 episodes would choose to spend time on the longer, quieter, and meaningful scenes between Jaime and Claire. Also, married couples still have sex in their 50s and 60s, so thank you for showing that.
