Uncle Jack and the Dark Side of the Moon (1992)
The Best Ever Children's Drama
Oh my God! I loved this as a kid and I can't believe that it's not that popular. I expected more on this and a DVD release by the BBC. Shame on you all! Uncle Jack ran for four series and somehow seems to have fallen into the abyss. Nobody remembers it now.
Jack Green is an environmentalist who is always active and putting his family in danger (mainly his sister's family!) This season is the third in the series.
Uncle Jack and the Dark Side of the Moon is set at a boarding school in Brimley Crompton where there's been weird goings on with the weather. It turns out it's Jack Green's arch enemy The Vixen. She's only out to dominate the world again. She wants to blackmail the nation and unless millions of pounds are paid into a Swiss bank account she'll unleash a tidal wave on London, wiping it off the face of the Earth. The pressure of such a wave would rip through hull of a submarine... but can Jack and the team stop her and her cronies before it's too late? Do I even need to dignify that with an answer?
The Queen's Nose (1995)
Is it just me?
I remember the Queen's Nose towards the end of my childhood so that's probably one of the reasons why I never felt this series spoke out to me much. It starts of with Harmony whose only friend seems to be Tom. She loves animals and her parents refuse blankly that she should have any animals. Her sibling rivalry with her sister is forever prevalent throughout the series. One day Harmony receives a magic 50 pence piece from her favourite Uncle Ginger and starts making wishes.
Is it only me that finds Harmony's character quite annoying throughout all this? She seems the type of girl that gets away with anything and saying anything and what kind of evil person wishes something horrible to their sister as hair growing all over her body. You read reviews about this program having morals about not being greedy but they do not seem that strong.
The first series has to be the best but the ending to it is rather weird. A wish creating bad consequences? As a child I can remember being quite confused about it all and still don't fully know why it happened. I tried to watch the second series but felt they were milking the storyline. I'm surprised it lasted about seven seasons.
Watt on Earth (1991)
Jemadah!
I look back and think that this programme never lasted just fifteen minutes? ... but it did! It seemed a lot longer when I was a kid. This series seems so old now that I can only remember certain things from it so here I go... a deerstalker hat, a back-to-front clock, a horribly coloured shell suit and the word Jemadah.
I used to love it when a creepy voice would say Jemadah! Mainly because my dog was called Gemma and she would react to it. I truly think we should have changed her name to it.
It's a pity that there isn't a DVD out because a lot of people are calling out for it and I for one will eventually see the final part.
