Geography Club (2013)
Pro Gay Ending
While you might get disappointed if you want a happily ending romance, this movie is still worth a watch. It ends on such a positive note, shows how people can be supportive and how much healthier it is to just be yourself rather than please everyone else!
Jongens (2014)
One of my favorites
I'm a sucker for LGBT+ movies that aren't all about sex, alcohol and how bad it is to be "different". This is a movie about a boy coming to terms with himself and the struggles he has to face to do so. The acting is great even though the cast is really young and the atmosphere feels reminiscent. Also I love how pure this is, their emotions feel really authentic and the beautiful shots add to that.
Heartstopper (2022)
The most wholesome LGBT+ representation
I have watched the show before buying the comics it's based on, and no matter which one you go for first, they're both more than just enjoyable. This is for people who need a feel-good, overly cute series, with little drama and focus on friendship and relationships. I am so happy to finally have some good bi representation and see a trans character entangled into the story without feeling forced. Don't go into this if you want drama or a big crisis though, you'll be disappointed by the overly positive atmosphere.
Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho (2014)
I keep rewatching this film
I don't know how to best explain the feeling i get when watching this movie but it sort of reminds me of simpler days and more carelessness. The characters are really sweet, there is a happy ending and being gay isn't portrayed as being the ultimate bad way of life. I also think it tackles adolescence and wanting to become independent well, such as overly protective parents, due to Leo's blindness. This movie just makes me happy and if you're also a person, looking for a movie focusing on emotions rather than sex and drugs, you might enjoy this one!
More Than Only (2017)
Undeserving of the harsh critique
I have just found this gem and was sad to see the overly negative response and lower than average score of this movie. Yes, it's not perfect but it certainly is a good story about coming to terms with yourself, having to put effort into a relationship and finding your own path in life. I have found it a bit overly dramatic at times while others seem to think it's boring or too slowly paced. What I find very insensitive is to say that it's clearly written by a woman because it focuses on things not relevant to men, like please, every person is individual and categorically dividing "men" from "women" is absolutely not okay today that we know more about gender and outdated gender roles. Also it's super unfair to say the lead actors are unattractive because looks are subjective and I'm here for the story not to find a partner myself. Yes, one of them is very egoistic and unsympathetic in the beginning, but also you can see the character development throughout the story, which is really nice. Also, I liked for a change that the film focuses on other things such as forming a bond, trust or the support from friends rather than sex and parties. Plus it has a happy end and a lot of good advise I can take for myself. On top of that, the whole movie is freely available on YouTube, so if you haven't, I strongly suggest you check it out yourself!
