Community (2009)
One of the greatest shows there ever was.
CHARACTERS:
Every one of Community's main characters are complex and compelling. They all contribute something to the group and all have hilarious moments. They lean into stereotypes whilst also turning them on their heads. Community's characters display continuity like no other show I have seen. The dialogue is snappy and witty without being to fast to follow.
STORY:
Community is mainly episodic, meaning that the story is different each episode. Community is fantastic at balancing absurd, funny episode plots with even absurder, funnier series arcs. It is also fantastic at its speciality - genre homage. Expect a spaghetti western, Law and Order spoof, zombie apocalypse episode, and so much more. Community is ingenious in how it handles genre homage in its episodes (note - the homage episodes don't start until very late in Season 1).
OVERALL RATING:
10/10. My personal favourite show, an underrated cult classic.
Community: Biology 101 (2011)
Mediocre episode with great moments and very low ones.
Biology 101 is a strange episode in that there are really clever moments, like the opening song, and Jeff's gift to Prof. Kane, but there are really low moments, like Annie being willing to kick Jeff out of her life but happily accepting Pierce after what he did in Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.
