Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
To much filler
It's easy for a production company to film peoples developing relationships, as opposed to action filled games. And it's easy for viewers not to realize it. This is what's going on in 90% of reality shows, challenge shows, survival shows, and squid game is no exception... but where it is the exception, is how painfully obvious it is... like.. is that carrot peeled enough? Lol. Where the show is weak, is it's filler relationship dynamics. Luke warm Character developments, and painfully obvious autonomic action instructions from the director. Where the show is strong is the new game dynamics. The chores, meals. Etc. It adds an extra depth to the original show that wasn't seen.
The show half hits the nail on the head. And luckily for me I have access to a fast forward button so I don't have to hear these poor attempts at banter and small talk.
Clone High: Let's Try This Again (2023)
Oof... I got excited for a moment...
I didn't expect to see clone high available to watch, ever. It felt like a blast from the past... the first episode started off really strong. I was hooked. They had a real solid continuation off the last episode 20 years ago. And even dive bombed into that cliffhanger we've all been waiting to see, or learn about... it all seemed so satisfying... then one of the lead characters starts going off about glass ceilings literal, and figurative. (Oh so clever) and then, for reasons unknown to science, the writers in 2023 decided to just go ahead and add new famous people that aren't that famous. Sorry but if I gotta google search who someone is, and if chat gpt doesn't even know who topher bus is, then my goodness... those people aren't that famous....
Getting past this, The first episode turns stale pretty quick for shoe horning in todays monotonous themes of race and gender equality.... Guess the whole glass ceiling joke wasn't enough... honestly it's pretty clear where this new series is going and that's a big imma head out from me. Very very Boring.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
I don't have much to say
Edit: I tried to watch it again with my wife recently, kept my mouth shut and watched the magic happen. She wanted to turn it off before me lol.
And me and her came to a conclusion, if you pretend that you forgot what movie your watching, it looks and feels like Star Wars film.
Disney over here killing two birds with one mandelorian.
Original: Wow... what was even that? What did I just watch? Well I half watched it... I'll be honest my excitement at the fact that it's an ant man movie dwindled pretty quickly about 1/3rd in maybe 1/2 in. The abysmal writing. The smooth brain antics from the characters. I know Scott's supposed to be an airhead but this is a whole new level. And since when did the grandpa drink the airhead koolaid? Ain't he the genius who came up with everything? Plot holes, to bad cgi, to abysmal writing and story progression, this masterpiece of dichotomy is just that... it's not very good... I don't have much to say other then this... but maybe I need to talk about the other elephant in the room... Disney as a whole as of late because the antman and the wasp is hardly the only one who's suffering from disney exhaustion syndrome. Most if not all of their franchises are... I'll be honest the only thing left that might be good is guardian's of the galaxy. But I'm gonna be candid with you. I don't think you should hold your breath. Might as well call that one done too.
The Proud Family (2001)
It's kinda like the boondocks... but not funny
The voice, the character design, the themes, we've all seen them before in an adult cult classic cartoon called the boondocks, only unlike the boondocks this cartoon is serious. It's target demographic isn't adults. But the inflammatory and divisive themes in the cartoon are too serious for children...
This has already set up this cartoon for lots of poor side by sides, and will likely not hit cult classic status as the boondocks did. Laughing is medicine in this world, and it's sad that Disney seemingly has forgotten this. Being too serious all the time is only making people more angry and upset with one another...
Oh well.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
You thought you were getting avatar 2.0, but What we have here; is avatar 1.2
I'm going to start off by saying the film looked great. And the action sequences are amazing. Really cool and good tense moments that put you on the edge of your seat or mentally go "he** yeah! Give it to em!" My only issue is I wish there was more of these moments for the length that the film is.
Now onward to the not so good... they resurrected the antagonist from the last avatar... they put in cheesy predictable cliches... the story, the inspiration, is the same. Only instead of minerals it's "earth is dying and we're moving here" and "alien whale brain juice is anti aging" so basically ambergris, whaling, and the destruction of nature by modern man... all familiar topics from the first film.
The movie has a ton of character building and drama. But for very little depth. Jake has devolved into a semi pig headed father type, who doesn't really listen to his kids. Neytiri spends most of the film, screaming, being angry, hissing and kinda going savage mode. The film is largely centred around their naive kids, and the things they get into, fighting, growing up, learning they have some kind of super connection with aywah, it's kind like watching a high school show without the highschool.
I think this boils down to bad writing. Bad/forced story progression. Your not watching the next iteration of avatar so much as your watch a rehashed version of it with more ocean now. But don't get me wrong it's pretty.
It just left a whistling hole in me where the first avatar was... which I guess I'll go watch that one because it feels more genuine.
The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth (2016)
Surprised this show isn't canceled in 2022
This show came about as a means of poking fun at trump. And since the shows first episode all the way until now there has been zero actual accredited evidence for the pushes this series has made. Things like Russian collusion have since been disproven in things like the Steele dossier which have ironically implemented Obama and Hillary. This series never corrected itself. It's still quoting the muller report, despite the Steele dossier contradicting it. No mentions. Lol.
Unsurprisingly this show would not mention this because it's paid for by the same people who paid to make hunter Biden's laptop go away on Facebook and MSM...
