Fist of the North Star (1995)
based on one of the classic manga series in Japan history back in early 80's
I literally grew up reading Fist of the North Star as a kid and to tell the truth, I was upset that they even tried to make a real movie out of it. I would like to answer some of the quetions from previous messages. Someone mentioned there aren't many martial art moves in the movie. Well... In original manga, every fight ends in 1-2 moves since either Ken is WAY TOO strong or the opponent is stronger. And yes, characters have Japanese names, but in manga, they DO look like white people.
Overall, the movie itself is not something to watch and the ONLY reason why I even bothered to hunt down this rare movie was because I was the biggest Fist of North Star manga fan about 15 years ago.
Musa (2001)
Journey does not end when you return home. It has only begun.
It is definitely one of the best action movies from Asia. Unlike Hong Kong movies, Korean movies are rarely known to people outside, mostly due to the fact that they are poor budget/low quality movies with storylines that have little or no interests to Europeans. However, Musa (which means Warrior in Korean) is nothing short of a big time Hollywood production in terms of special effect, stunts, storyline and many other aspects.
Very nice fighting scenes from the beginning to the end as betrayed Korean ambassador crew tried to return to Koryo through enemy territories.
Ziyi Zhang from Crouching Tiger... plays an attractive but spoiled Princess. Another reason why you should check out this movie if you liked her in Crouching Tiger.
I am not sure how the English subtitles will affect the movie since I saw this movie in Korean. Usually, Asian movies have either horrible subtitles or really good ones, never in between =)
