Dix pour cent: Jean (2020)
Comedy turned into sour drama in the last episode for no reason at all!
It seems that the screenwriters don't know what genre expecations are. Viewers watch a comedy because they EXPECT a happy ending. Yes, that is part the contract between writer and reader/viewer. If I want to see a tragic ending I watch a drama. But these people decided to give this comedy an awful ending where the destiny of some characters is uncertain (Andrea) or downright undeserving (Gabriel). There are many stories that are not resolved (Camille's love life doesn't exist); her father doesn't formally sign the paternity. It is as though the show was called off at the last minute and many things were left unresolved. But that wouldn't be as deceiving for the viewer as to have that little dog die (??) for absolutely no reason rather than to strike a very low blow. I think it is perverse. It came from nowhere, and then at least they should have have Arlette adopt a puppy. But no, the kind elderly lady is left alone (where did her boyfriend go? )
I enjoyed the series most of the time but this ending was the most horrible, deceiving, unjustified I have seen in a series ever. Which is why I have to defined the whole product as trash. Really, it's unbelievably perverse what they did in the last episode.
The Crown: Margaretology (2019)
The cast is a lack of respect to the viewers
Though I was determined not to continue watching the series after episode 1 of Season 3 for the awful change of all the actors I gave the series a second chance but things kept going downhill. I still cannot understand why in they year 2019 the producers couldn't just keep the same actors and make them look older with makeup effects. The problem with the cast is that the protagonists don't look remotely alike the people they are performing and they look so much older than the age they are supposed to be in this episode. It's a lack of respect to the viewer to have us watch these people who look as if they were in their fifties while they are supposed to be in their late 30s. Not only that but the characters have now also changed their personalities: Elizabeth and Philip in seasons 1 and 2 were flawed but loveable. In season 3 they have ceased to be lovable and start showing some bad manners or condescendence towards servants. The same happens with Margaret: in the previous seasons she was flawed but sensitive; in this season she starts being cynical. And it's impossible to like these characters. I've never been so disappointed of a series.
Emily in Paris (2020)
Enjoyable Escapist Romantic Comedy
I watched the two seasons of ¨Emily in Paris¨ in 5 days on Netflix. The episodes run smoothly and are fun to watch. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and I loved Emily's colourful, daring outfits, which reflect her cheerful personality. I found Lily Collins' acting very good; she is funny and I totally disagree with people roasting her skills. The series is loaded with very ackward situations that Emily has to go through, which become the source of the comic element in the story. I think users who seem to be so offended by this tv show should really chill off and re-watch this series doing away with their own prejudice towards this American production. As a non-American and non-French viewer, I really don't think that the series looks down on the French and their culture. If you reach the last episode of Season 2 you will see that there has been a change of mindset in Emily and her attitude totally differs from her American boss's attitude. Also, behind her supposedly shallow surface she has developed strong feelings for the people their and the French culture. Emily is very open-minded about becoming friends with people of different ethnic origins, so I don't think this is a racist story at all. At the end of episode 2 it is the American culture that is much more under criticism than the French. So I think you people just need to relax and enjoy this entertaining story. Is not realistic? Maybe not, but who said Romantic comedies are a portrayal of real life? They serve the purpose of giving us a relief from the drama of real life. So I think that purpose is definitely fulfilled.
