Under the Skin (2013)
This movie is very hard to digest/watch/enjoy/appreciate/recommend
I watched the movie against my best judgment to stop watching in the middle. But I wanted to since it was hard to digest Scarlett acting in a movie with full nudity, which would not make sense. It was very frustrating trying to make sense. Perhaps I should have read reviews by other people before watching this movie!
After reading few reviews on IMDb I must say it is definitely not for simple people who want entertainment for their buck. In spite of it being sci-fi thriller, it is not like species or predator or remotely close. Who were these aliens; why did they come to earth; why they kill people with no remorse or emotion, that also only male; why they do, what they do? These were few simple questions I wanted to find answer while watching entire movie. The movie was very slow and boring to a point where I just wanted someone to fast forward. But apparently it was not about aliens, but about our society! May be aliens were also trying to find the answer to similar question about us: why we do, what we do?
Few Utter boring points: Bike being driven around with no music Scarlet walking on a deserted road with no music Scarlet driving around for quite some time in a van with minimal or no music Scarlet inviting guys inside house in a repetitive manner
It seemed movie was unnecessarily being stretched. Scenic beauty of Scotland is pretty good. No doubt about that. But movie was not about that. Entire movie could have been summed up in maximum of half an hour. At the end of movie I was very tired while trying to make sense out of it. I was ready to give 0 star for wasting my time completely. But then there were parts of it very interesting when alien is in shock and gives up human form. Over all I will not recommend anyone watching this movie unless you are very philosophical and wouldn't mind exercising your brain, which might turn out to be futile at the end.
Dosti (1964)
golden movie, versatile movie, outstands among thousands of new releases :-)
I don't usually write review of the movies as there are millions who do and I am thankful to them. But this movie seemed like it didn't get its fare share of popularity/recognition when it should have. Yes, it was a hit movie of its time, yes people still listen to its songs now and then, but the movie, the actors, which no one knows about or talks about, deserve more than that. The lead actor Sudhir Kumar 'Mohan' beats many of actors even now. His smiley face makes my problems feel so small. He is smiling even when he is singing this heart wrenching song...'Jaane walon jara..' especially the line "Dekhta hoon tumhe..(I see you)" brought tears to my eyes. A blind man is seeing through you, when nobody else (with eyes) can or cares.. It was so gratifying that I had to watch it again and again. Ramu says to Mohan that you have such beautiful eyes and you are blind!! It is unbelievable. Yes, it was to me too. But the director 'Satyen Bose' has done such a great job with these 2 unknown actors that you immediately fall in love with them, with their friendship. You wish that you had friends like them... You wish that you could have such trust among your friends. Movie so simple, with such simple characters and very predictable storyline, which can do such a great job, is so hard to make now a days. Aah... such good old days... watch it with your family and enjoy the memory of your childhood days.
Treasure Raiders (2007)
Good theme, very poorly executed by actors and director
If you want to waste your time, this is the one for you. Very bad acting. poor dialog delivery, stupid action scenes (if you have ever watched any Jackie-Chan movie, OK forget Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal! OK forget Seagal, Chuck Norris! OK forget Norris, any other American/Chinese/hongkong action movie, you will wonder what is going on here!), idiotic expressions at times. Only one villain is worth watching who survives at the end! He reminded me of Mickey Rourke(Marv) in Sin City.
I watched this movie because someone had given very good feedback (someone who wants to make money!!) and the actor 'Alexander Nevsky' is considered hero in his country. After reading his profile, I liked him for not depicting Russian as bad guy as he refused few offers to act in blockbuster movies! But he is destroying the Russian reputation by being a bad actor. He is a bodybuilder alright, but it's the acting, which counts, not just the body!! Schwarzenegger or The Rock would not have done so well if they had acted poorly.
I want my money back. Although I watched it for free, It was still not worth my time!
