Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla is too fat.Maybe he ate too much Mac Fries
15 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I am getting to feel all "Legendary Films" movies have poor production values. While certain CGI look splendid most others make a mockery of logic. The godzilla part is just too cartoonish and the human side cannot coexist in the same frames as the monstors.Godzilla is so huge his stamp could have caused the tremors that can kill people and his gruntling can eplode ear drums but still all the people seem to able to run off to safety easily. Movies such as jurassic park make a better comparable scenes of people with respect to godzilla's gargantuan moves.

The movies is just too commercial and clichéd.The script writers chose san francisco to be converging point of the monstors so as to get maximum building destruction and movie goer excitement.

I feel Roland Emmerich did a better job with his version of Godzilla

Maattrraan (2012)

KV Anand shocker
12 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
An honest opinion of the film from a Surya fan and KV Anand follower.

i just feel Suriya is jinxed (or maybe even cursed by his competitors(Vijay???!)) with back to back scrappy scripts in the form of Rakthacharithram- 7Am Arivu- Maattrraan.Trustable directors are letting him(and us, Tamil audience) down. Prior to that Singam ,Adhavan,Ayan,VA,Kaakha Kaakha,Ghajini were all blockbusters.

Maattrraan was marketed as a technical wizardry.Conjoined twins concept was amazing.Suriya's looks were also dashing. But in the trailer itself one can see the disjoint not-so-perfect Suriyas..........every one is praising "Performance Capture",but it was major flop in the movie. The opening half with 2 Suriyas ,we can clearly see one Surya match very abnormally which increasingly became a glaring joke.Shanker got it wrong when he prolonged VFX scenes(Endhiran fire and climax scenes) Which no Hollywood studio would do.Kamal got it wrong with the tall-afghan guy in Dasavatharam. Why use a technology/Technic when we cannot make perfect output like our Hollywood counterparts.

I very well belief this technical mess got KV Anand sir distracted and as a result he could not churn out a perfect entertaining flick such as Ayan and Ko.Comedy was forced and there were numerous predictable draggy scenes 1)Anniyan Ambi like love letter 2)over- overstretched fight scene at MGM Dizee world-made no sense. It was too long.3)that long drive into that cave at climax scene and a even longer speech session.these are just 3 examples.

2nd half has so much research, but it was a pointless ordeal.the moment Surya shatters the dining table glass we roughly know what will happen in climax. All the twists became clichéd.as Preshanth of Desimaritini mentions "the second half is a big chore, no matter how you look at it. There's not an ounce of suspense and everything that you see here doesn't matter at all. It becomes very evident how things are eventually going to pan out, but we are made to sit through a very long, pointless exposition".

Foreign military were made to look stupid. And again we see hero, heroine missing bullets at close range.

i also thought there was no real need for the conjoined twins. It seem more of a marketing purpose only, just to draw the hype.Except the fact that they were a result of their father's experiment(gone wrong). To me it does not add much literature value other than an eyesore whenever i see the badly matched Cut-n-paste Surya.they could have played another actor(Ajmal?!) as the would-become-dead twin.

finally....Harris Jeyraj has to quit movies.other than songs he cannot make decent Bgm. His climax Bgms were loud and noisy.

KV Anand lost plot midway.Surya looked as if he just wanted to finish off the project asap(as if he knew its going to be another dumb forgettable project like 7Am Arivu).Writers SuBha must reinvent.Harris Jeyraj,KV Anand,Suriya all seem to hastily finish off the project.Everyone pawned AGS Kalpathi Agoram's money and went holiday to that Ukrania or Ukvania(sometimes heard as Rukmenia).

Kajal was the only inspiration(for men) to sit through the ordeal.Women and children can drink "Energion" to keep up.Audience grew impatient towards the end. Some started to clap(mockingly)and sulked at the level of stupidity allowed in a 2012 movie.

Although its an average one-time-watch flick, one deservedly expect much more from the director of Ayan and Ko.

#trivia - Prakash Raj was supposed to do the villain role but he was sacked early.Maybe its a boon in disguise for him

Injustice to the screenplay quality of TDK.A bad sequel
19 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I was initially shocked to see all the first few pages full of 10/10 reviews but after page 7 it seem to be more honest reviews. Its a moment of whether one will agree that the "Emperor is naked". Difficult for fan boys to see the flaws of the movie but i did.

I never followed Batman from young but TDK changed my opinion and made batman my favorite superhero.

TDKR has tremendous responsibility to follow up the good work of batman begins and TDK but it has rather disappointed(me). How many times have we seen this Below-viaduct-under-the-highway chase scenes.Nolan is just reusing all his antiques from the first movie. However one never gets tired of watching this stylish batman's every move. That was yet another hair raising batman intro despite a super long draggy boring opening 30 mins.

Some of the themes are too recurring. The theme of people getting trapped beyond bridges, inmates escaping and causing chaos, explosives and more explosives. When it is used again and again more audience can easily realize some of the logic flaws in those scenes.

Batman is also becoming too fantasy.his flying saucer can hide from government radars and he still can appear and disappear at any place in his very "unnoticable" costume and "small" bike.the scenes were so dragging that i started to purposely notice logic nonsenses. Also during Batman's first escape ,the police cars give him a clear view of the ramp on the highway. There were a hundreds of police cars blocking all angles but give him a clear view to the ramp. Also there were too many scenes of catwoman and batman escaping bullets.Police always have gun pointed but never shoot and eventually let their targets escape. The apocalyptic scenes reminded a little of the very forgettable terminator 4(also has bale)

Also not very sure why Nolan gives this Joseph-Gordon levitt(500 days of summer) too much importance since inception.Anne Hathaway is pretty but it seems like she is a jinx to the current(almost perfect) batman series.her stunts are cool but she is fakingly powerful(and her mask really "conceals" her identity).Gary Oldman is someone i didn't knew b4 batman,an amazing actor together with Micheal Caine,Morgan freeman & Liam neeson. Thanks Nolan for utilizing such a stellar cast...TDK,The prestige and batman begins will remain in my all time favorites list.I will let this movie pass and hope Nolan can make a movie out of the dull-black-white- strong-contrast visuals which is too repetitive and makes his style very predictable.as some others mentioned every scene has to be linked with a flashback, every dialog has to be meaningful.

Nolan did make a fitting end to the legend but somehow the movie experience was not there.saving private ryan(172mins) and titanic(194mins) were lengthy but definitely entertaining and engrossing.

Eyarkai (2003)
9/10
A very very good tamil movie.
15 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Not many tamil movies have as IMDb movie page.Only a few has user reviews also. One such commented/reviewed movie is Anbe Sivam. And Iyarkai definitely deserves to be one of the few tamil movies to be reviewed in IMDb.com.Surprising such a good movie has been shunned by the majority audience. But its good to find that there are people(IMDb reviewers) who still laud such good work.

The movie is adapted from novel "white nights" and it has been excellently indianised to suit our culture.Locales are wonderful too.So all the credits go to director and the story writer.Another version of "white nights" is Hindi movie Saawariya which is not as good as the tamil one.Saawariya's screenplay is not good and lacks the pace. While iyarkai has shown the good harbours in south tamil nadu,Saawariya is shot in man made sets. The plot line is great and the treatment to the characters is also good.Arun kumar's role is short but pivotal.Shyam is lovable and you want the girl to love him.Kutty Radhika takes the right decision in the climax. The dilemma kutty radhika faces is heartbreaking

Avatar (2009)
9/10
I love Pandorra
17 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Finally Avatar has arrived.I was one of the thousands who bought tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.Yes the movie was great.Very nice story, excellent graphics and a nice message too.

However,Avatar too has some not-so-nice-things to list.Cameron has largely depended on the technology used and graphics to make the movie work.In fact the story seems to be tailor-made to exploit the groundbreaking technology. But to me the graphics just seemed to be similar to other sci-fi movies such as star trek, star wars(revenge of the sith) and lotr.In fact i enjoyed Star Trek(2009) more because i went to star trek with no hype and JJ Abrams was no Cameron to build much hype.

secondly for most parts the movie was just like a first-person-shooter game centering the lead avatar. The occasional zooming in effects reminded me games such as Crysis and Call-of-duty but the effects were nice.and the movie was mostly predictable with the good guys winning at the climax. The build up to the conflict and the hero's rise were all clichéd.

Pandorra was definitely worth a visit and its spectacular lifeforms are mind-blowing but James Cameron definitely could have thought better for this 12 years wait.his earlier movies such as Titanic,Terminator 2 and alien were much much better. They were more engrossing, thrilling and original.Cameron could have jut a made a movie with real people i the real world.Doubt this movie can justify his portfolio.

Apart from the bad thing Avatar definitely has its share of commendable stuff. As per most reviews the soundtrack of this movie was wonderful and i am going to watch this movie again just for that. But this time in 2d as found the 3d distracting. The emotional scenes between neytiri and jake sully's avatar were nice.James Cameron is a master in writing romantic scenes.

Avatar is worth the watch but its just another sci-fi movie and its definitely not going to dethrone Titanic.Lets see how Tin Tin(Spielberg) and Inception(Christopher Nolan) fare in 2010

ALF (1986–1990)

ALF rocks.
3 April 2009
I watched it for the first time in the year 2004 when i was 16 yrs old.Surprsingly I find it relevant to the present current era too.The dialog rendering is brilliant.Willie and ALF make a good pair.I don really watch English sitcoms. But became a fan of this once i started watching the first few episodes. And i only realized how i close i became to this show when i came across the DVD couple of years later.

I love to watch this show over and over again.ALF's way of expressing things is extremely good and catchy.Below is one of my favorite ones.

Willie: Stay away from the window, we've got a very nosy neighbor - Mrs. Ochmonek. ALF: Ochmonek? Sounds like a typo
