Walker: Independence: Home to a Stranger (2022)
Still loving it
Ok somehow Kate just jumped to my favorite character. I am 100% loving her attitude. She takes no bull and I love it.
Abby, Hoyt and Calian are great together. They are so fun. Abby just jumped right in the middle of everything in Independence, and she's definitely got to stay on top of being between those two to keep things going smoothly. For now, I think and hope they'll all end up working well together.
Still think the sheriff is shady. I love that Abby is smart. I have no doubt she'll get to the bottom of who did kill her husband. Their dinner was fantastic and tense.
Still unsure where Gus is going to end up standing at as this gets deeper into it.
So excited watching this show, love seeing strong women characters, especially a lead.
Fall (2022)
Loved it
I really loved this! Of course there were quite a few moments I was asking my tv 'why not do this?' and plenty of 'I would not do that'. But I also wouldn't climb the tower in the first place. All that aside, it was a really fun movie. Visually it was pretty awesome. I'll admit quite a bit of it made my stomach turn, as I'm seriously afraid of heights! I believed the girls' acting, and loved seeing jdm as a dad. Even if I disagreed with any of the girls' plans while up there, I was absolutely on the edge of my seat. Only a couple parts I had to close my eyes at because it was stressful watching with my own fears. Watched with my kids, and they loved it too.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
Glad to have more Teen Wolf
I am not a critic and I like what I like. So take this with a grain of salt, I absolutely loved the show (plot holes, inconsistencies and all) so I was so excited to see them coming back for more. No way I wasn't gonna watch it. It has issues but it's pretty much what I was expecting based on the show. So no surprise. Even though I loved it; it still has all the issues everyone says it does, too many characters too little time. I wish they'd have given us a mini series like 6 episodes or something. But like the show, plot holes and inconsistencies. It's on paramount+ instead of cable tv so yes there's a bit of nudity and f bombs, but they're also all grown and feels on par with what's going on. Even with the ending, I loved it. Watched it multiple times so far, and I'll watch it plenty more just to get even a little bit more of characters I enjoy.
Barbarian (2022)
Wth
So the first half of the movie is awesome. They do some really great set up. Sufficiently creepy and drew me in. I was so excited for this movie and looking forward to it. The second part came out of nowhere and I spent too much time trying to figure out if I was watching the same movie I'd gotten invested in. Once they connected the two parts I thought it'd get back to the creep factor and it almost did. They just couldn't quite get me back there. It just went downhill after the second jump to something else. It could have been cool but just didn't hit the way I'd hoped and it got a bit too cheesy by the end. If it tells you anything, just about the entire trailer is from the beginning where they set up what looks to be a great horror flick but it just falls short.
Smile (2022)
Loved this
I used to be a huge fan of horror movies but lately haven't found any I really loved. They're a bit too far on the cheesy side, but this one was a nice surprise. A lot of jump scares yes, but better than most. I didn't always see them coming so that was cool. I liked the premise and I found myself rooting for Cotter. I wanted her to break the cycle. The plot with her mother wasn't one I guessed ahead of time either. I found myself trying to figure out which parts were real after a bit. This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while, and it was nice to not guess everything before it happened.
On the Line (2022)
Yikes
Ok, I wasn't expecting Mel Gibson's acting to be quite so bad in this. He felt on par with everyone else's bad acting. None of the characters were believable. Bad acting aside, I rated this a 4 because it was still somewhat entertaining and I watched the entire thing to the end. Unfortunately the end was absolutely horrible. Yea it turned out to all be a joke, but not even a funny one at all. It isn't even a believable prank all for one new employee. After the reveal, I knew Dylan would go down, tbh I wasn't following the layout of the building and I assumed as soon as he started backing away he'd go down the elevator shaft. Unfortunately as soon as he didn't, I knew that was just another prank on top of it. I feel like this could have been a good suspenseful thriller but it just totally missed.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
It was ok
I have not read the book, but maybe I'd have enjoyed the book more than the movie (I usually do). Even without being familiar with the story at all, none of it was surprising at all, including the end. It felt slow to me, but it may have felt like it was dragging because I didn't really care about the characters. However it was entertaining enough, I didn't hate it at all, and I did watch to the end so definitely not horrible.
I'd say the most enjoyable part for me was watching Kya as a child, seeing how her family fell apart and how she kept going and made her way.
I watched it because all of my friends enjoyed it, but I'd say it just wasn't for me. It was a very visually pretty movie though, and I had no complaints about the acting.
Love and Monsters (2020)
A new favorite
One of my kids was waiting for this movie to be released, and because of everything going on when it released and we had to stream it, I figured we'd pay the 20 bucks to rent it and have a family movie night. It was so worth it. We all loved it. Dylan O'Brien and Boy carried it well enough that I wouldn't have minded it even if he didn't come across anyone on his journey. I was a bit skeptical at the start, but my daughter and I loved it so much, we immediately watched it a second time after it was done. (Ok and a few more times during the 2 day rental) I eventually bought it so I can watch it over and over and it's a go to comfort movie for me now. The best money I spent during all the quarantine. It's funny and charming but not so childish that it gets on my nerves.
*spoiler starts here*
I also loved that the ending wasn't a simple guy gets the girl. It's nice to see a movie where it doesn't just work out because he wants it to, and it not working out didn't cause drama, he grew up enough during the journey that it wasn't his end all be all, and I'm glad for that. Sure he got to help save the day, but it's cool that it wasn't all on him either, Aimee got to be a badass herself as well.
Walker: Independence: Pilot (2022)
Loved it
Finally got time to watch this pilot and I loved it.
I like that while Abby is strong and independent even without her husband, she's not going to just come in, and immediately take down the sheriff and have a happily ever after right away in Independence. She's going to take him down I'm sure or at least find out what he was after, if it was just to be the sheriff or if Davidson and Liam Collins did in fact know (or know of) each other back in Boston. (I'm not entirely sure yet if her husband was in any kind of trouble he's running from, or if he even was a good guy, he seems like he was hiding something from Abby)
Love Hoyt and that he's just as fun as he was in Walker.
Really looking forward to learning about Kate, and Calian. As much as I like Abby already, those are two I really want to know their story.
Can't wait to find out more about what kind of guy Augustus is, and who's side he's going to be on as Abby becomes more well known in the town and finds out more about the sheriff.
Also liked that it didn't feel rushed or that they were throwing a ton of information at me all at once like most pilots feel when watching. A lot of people were introduced and quite a bit happened, but I loved the pace of it.
Beast (2022)
Garbage
I was really excited by the trailer! Looked like some good action, and the lion didn't look as horribly cheesy as it could have. Had hoped it would be a good watch.
At first I didn't know where the disconnect was. We started the movie and it felt like the entire thing was voiced over a different language because their mouths didn't seem to match the words they were saying. Then we realized that the sound/voices were slightly off from what was happening on the screen. (We had rented a Blu-ray from Redbox) thought maybe it was our player, so we put the disc in the Xbox. Same issue, but not as noticeable. It felt like the whole audio had been scrapped, then they put the actors in a room together and had them unemotionally read lines off a piece of paper. Even Elba was no good. At one point in the movie he screamed "Hey!" loudly and his mouth on screen barely moved. By the time the lion was interacting with the family I was just done and hoping the lion would just come in and eat everyone. We turned it off at that point. I don't expect realistic storylines in a movie to be entertaining, I feel like this could have been a good movie, but missed the mark by a mile.
Vivarium (2019)
Unexpectedly good
This movie was my husband's pick. I don't think I'd have ever watched it otherwise. I wasn't expecting to like it, let alone love it. It was a bit weird at first, and I was waiting for something crazy and big to suddenly happen. And it never really did except the crazy was already happening. I wouldn't describe it as slow, because I was hooked from early on in the movie, but then I'm not exactly sure how I would describe it. I absolutely love that this movie didn't spoon feed me all the answers at the end. It wouldn't have fit with the rest of the movie to just give me all the whys and hows - and for me that added to the horror of it. My teenagers hated it. I've recommended it to a few other people and most either love it or absolutely hate it. It was not what I was expecting going into it, and I love that.
La Brea (2021)
Fun show
I skipped out on watching season one when it came out because while it looked interesting, I assumed it would be cancelled after one season. While looking for something to watch last summer, my sister asked if I liked it, and I told her I'd skipped it and why. She told me she liked it and it was picked up for another season. So I gave it a try. While I'll admit, the effects are absolutely trash, it is a fun show to watch. I like the premise. It's interesting and keeps me wanting to know how they're going to get out of this. While I was about halfway through the season, one of my teenagers joined me and liked it, so we started over for her to watch with me. We both like the mystery of it and the connection that Gavin has. A few episodes in, a popular song my kid knows played and she rolls her eyes and said that's where the budget went. (Seriously, the effects are that bad) I'm not sure how season 2 is going to go, and I don't know if I like more of the group splitting into the 80s with young Gavin, but I'm willing to keep giving it a chance because I do enjoy it and can watch with my daughter.
