Don't Look Up (2021)
This movie is absurd.
Absurd is a fitting label; wildly unreasonable and illogical This thinly veiled but profoundly accurate portrayal of MAGA, Qanon and the loose screw required to peddle and believe is a reflection of a frightening reality.
Sure, the acting was good, the writing reasonable, directing effective, cinematography and special effects impressive.
How do the creators of this film propose a solution. They do not. How do we, the viewer convert enlightenment into action?
Without a solution, without effective action, this movie is nothing more than a rant, as absurd as the times and characters it depicts.
Life, Liberty & Levin (2018)
The words that leave his mouth are English
Following the advice of my mother, us you can't say something nice ....
Although he speaks English, the words form sentences of a non thinking sycophant
What a joke..
Away (2020)
I Iiked episode 2 exponentially better than episode 1
Delving into the dynamics of extended separation, self reliance and interdependence; written, directed and performed well is refreshing.
Coda (2019)
Ah, German composers
I enjoyed this immensely. Piano sonatas, concertos and etudes throughout left me both satisfied and wanting more. What a pleasure to be introduced to Serhiy Salov. Exquisite technique remaniscant of Horowitz. I'm very glad to now know of him.
Patrick Stewart is well cast and delivers a memorable performance. I admit I am a fan and cannot get enough of him. Katie Holmes has matured into a beautiful woman. Her character and performance is heart warming. Giancarlo Esposito is wonderful and Ihis pep talk for his struggling client touches on a truth for most of us.
The location, soundtrack, plot and pace is perfect for a rainy afternoon with a fire and some Earl Grey.
Getting into the pace and the soundtrack is big with this movie. If I were wound up or preoccupied, this review would not have been so glowing.
Director Claude Lalonde and writer Louis Godbout triumphed.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Dog piss writing and directing
I am blown away that such drek can find its way past a pilot. Two seasons? Why?
I'm embarrassed fir everyone involved in this extraordinary pile.
Woman Walks Ahead (2017)
At least Steven Knight got the names right
Oh, wait, scratch that. Starting from the title, this is a pile of fiction.
How many historical inaccuracies does it take for Hollywood to call it fiction?
What did they get right ...... ...... .....
I'm still thinking ..... .... ....
There was an actor portraying Sitting Bull. (Only 30 years too young)
There is an actress portraying Weldon. (Also 30 years too young)
There's cavalry and other Indians in the Dakota's. Good enough, for Hollywood.
Isn't Jessica Chastain beautiful?
Call it a wrap.
What a piece if drivol.
Black Mirror (2011)
Unlike anything on TV today
It's unfair to compare this series to The Twilight Zone. Unfortunately, that's the only comparison available. Additionally, with such a variety of writers and directors, the range of styles and methods of execution make it a collage. The common threads are the producer, a dystopian view and British film/TV Movie making sensibility.
Many episodes could stand on their own as full theatrical releases. A few need not have been made. Taken in its entirety, the body of work is genius. It will likely remain viable for generations as the technologies foreseen will be compared to the similar technologies that will become reality. Where Series such as Star Trek and Star Wars futurist views are defined by the movie making technology of the time, this series is defined by the creative talent and imagination of the production staff. Like I said, British. Fortunately, this wasn't (or has not yet) been f'd up by Hollywood.
Reading some of the reviews are, as other non US series of movies, not fully appreciated by the US audience. It lacks the typical banality and requires an intellect or education level beyond the US electorate to fully appreciate the work.Clue, there's no laugh track or formula or predicable outcome. Sorry Trump supporters, this one requires a brain.
Snowden (2016)
Not Stones best work
The acting performances were skilled. I do not agree that this was well directed. The cinematography was flawed at best and continuity issues ran rampant. A few scenes left one thinking Stone was either asleep at the wheel or not present in post production.
There's more than one view about Ed Snowden and his actions while working for US intelligence. Stone not only portrays only one view but offers no detail about alternative opinions or possibilities.
The simple alternative labels Snowden a traitor. Stone fails to explore this. The assembly order of the "facts" leaves the viewer with little to work with other than Snowden's version of events and Stones biased portrayal.
Given the release date of this movie, Stone had the opportunity to explore more recent findings that Snowden is now in league with Russia and handsomely under their employ. Although treason need not be at play, the principal of inevitable disclosure represents a compromise to both the NSA and CIA. How this can occur, the effect on US National security is far more compelling than the simpleton's portrayal of a hacker patriot whistle blower.
I know it's too much to expect Oliver Stone would deliver a balanced perspective. In this case, the ax he's grinding is as dull as he.
Doctor Strange (2016)
A waste of time, money and effort
Basically, a bad movie that was a waste of time on everyone's part. The visual effects were one of the few strengths. Whatever strengths exist, they're not enough to justify the money spent in movie making and not worth the price of a ticket. The only reason I didn't leave mid movie is my wife fell asleep and I didn't want to wake her. Mr. Cumberbash with an American accent demonstrates his abilities but why? That would be like having Tilda Swinton with a cue ball. Oh wait ... Even Stan Lee's cameo was a question mark. As I proceed with this, it's just to fill the required number of lines in the review. How many different ways can one state that this was a bad movie and all this a waste of time?
America Unearthed (2012)
Scott Wolter idiocy only exceeded by A&E executives
- Who needs another Geraldo Rivera? The History channel(s) are, in airing this show, just sensationalists. Unquestionably, this is one of the worst programs and programming decisions on television. Wrapping this crap in a Historical context is just an idea for a show, it's not a good idea. Producing and airing this was unquestionably a very bad idea. Just not watching this doesn't seem an adequate response. I certainly won't ever watch anything Scott Wolter does. I've removed this channel from my DVR. Let's hope an exec at A&E demonstrates that someone there has a triple digit IQ and cancels this turkey before season 2.
