The Sandlot (1993)
Great Memories
This film sure brought back some great memories about growing up. The film is charming, and is great for kids and adults alike. There's definitely something for everyone. For any kid who's every been afraid of fitting in, or wants to have some great adventures, you don't want to miss this film.
Mary Silliman's War (1994)
A Good TV Movie
Mary Silliman's War is far from a big budget TV movie with a lot of star power and glamorous sets and costumes. But it is still in fact a very good and accurate story. Mary's husband is taken by loyalists and Mary must take over their property. Along the way she receives help from Privateer Hawley, who helps her husband's return possible. Not overdone, but with some cheesy dialogue, I would recommend it to people looking for a more accurate Revolutionary War tale.
A Place in the Sun (1951)
Classic Look at Class In America
"A Place in the Sun" was based on Dreiser's "An American Tragedy" written in 1925. If you're looking for some interesting connections regarding class struggles, be sure to check out and compare it to another book of the same year (1925) "The Great Gatsby." As for the film, it is simply great. The love scenes between Clift and Taylor are some of the most sexually charged scenes ever filmed. Although the argument has been made that the film is "dated," I would ask you to remember that such issues as abortion, murder, and "new money" vs. "old money" still exist in America today.
