Dune: Part Two (2024)
Excellent film
The storyline of this film deserves lots of praise and thatvus just the beginning. The cinematography is fantastic.. it actually brings one into the world of Arrakis. The movie shows how belief is the biggest weapon humanity can wield and also the scariest if used inappropriately. The acting from Timothée is fantastic. You really see him grow into this character the Lisan Al-Gaib. There were a few acting performances that did not hit par but on the whole, this is a mega movie and a true box-office beast. I do wonder whether the oscars would try and allow this big budget blockbusters play a more prominent role in awards season.
Lift (2024)
Very Exciting Movie
I am genuinely surprised by the negative comments here for this movie. It brings me back to a time when movies were exciting and made to entertain and one went to the cinema looking to believe the incredible and genuinely have a good time This movie does absolutely that! I enjoyed the banter, score and action sequences and the slightly surprising but beautiful ending. I wish there were more movies like this as nowadays we end up with stinkers like Saltburn getting credits for making one vomit. How such movies receive rave critic reviews, I would never understand. It just goes to show that maybe the critics themselves need reviewing.
The Black Book (2023)
Imaginative Art hits reality
This film captures the human experience for so many people and the reality is that it is not limited to developing countries like Nigeria. The truth is humanity's thirst for power is an instinct that thrives where institutional mechanisms are not strong enough to combat it. The producer went all put to portray this horrible instinct and how it corrupts everything. Its jeopardy however being its all consuming nature which eventually consumes the individual as well. The delivery and depth from all the actors was excellent albeit Nollywood still has a bit to learn on executing hollywood level action scenes.
A Jazzman's Blues (2022)
Superb movie
This was a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Thoroughly enthralled with the movie. I believe that this movie should be nominated an oscar at least for some of the original songs. There is a lot to digest about the movie. It almost felt like a true-life story in a sense which speaks for itself when it was all fiction. I had thought I had gotten tired of watching movies about the Crow South but this movie did not feel like the typical story. It had love, rivalry, jealousy, music, chance, brotherhood and so much more. When Ira discussed with Bayou about his experience of the Holocaust, I felt that was a reckoning. Characters were captivating and ultimately the ending was fitting.
