Grimm (2003)
shamefull..
Last night this movie was shown on dutch television so I decided to take a look.
Why did I do that? This is an awful film without a storyline (or anything remotely similar to it), but with bad dialogues, mediocre acting and unbelievable scenes. The last could be a good thing, but it isn't, I meant it in a bad way.
If you like your characters to be unlikable, somewhat retarded, incestuous and totally weird, you might like the movie. but probably not even then...
Avoid this like the plague! I'm ashamed to be Dutch after seeing this...
Swimfan (2002)
good start, bad finish
This teenager 'Fatal Attraction' clone has left me torn. I really like the first part where the main character Ben is seduced by Madison; the new kid in town. Although you know straight away that she is going to seduce him you wonder whether Ben is just oblivious to this or that he does know, but that he is young and foolish, and just a man....
The plot then unravels nicely and you are sucked into the story big time. Alas halfway the movies quality changes dramatically. Madison becomes from intriguing and scary to pathetic and stupid. The whole story becomes more and more unbelievable as the movie continues, which is a shame really as it started out so nicely.
The acting was actually quite good. Madison (Erika Christensen) is perfectly cast as she looks seductive, innocent, bitchy and devilish at the same time. All the other actors are quite good too.
In short, not too bad, but could have been a lot better.
Miami Vice (2006)
Very disappointing...
I really liked the series back in the 80's and therefore was looking forward to see this film. However when friends who went to see it in the cinema's trashed it; I didn't go to the theatre for it. This weekend it was broad-casted on TV and now I know I did the right thing back then....
The movie was pretty bad, I couldn't understand half of what was said, it was too long, contained some absolutely unbelievable twists and turns, and several redundant scenes. On top of this the director chooses to shoot from very weird angles to be hip or something but it was just annoying. I guess the intention was to make you feel part of the action, but that really didn't work.
What was worst for me is that I didn't care for Sonny and Rico. They are not likable or even a little sympathetic. As the film progressed, I started hoping they got shot or something.
Ultimately the movie was very disappointing compared to the series on TV.
Finally; why was Sonny/Colin Farrell walking around with this awful Village People moustache?
