Very realistic
26 February 2003
As someone who has had a neurological condition that in some ways is similar to what the patients in Awakenings have I can tell you this is one of the most realistic portrayals of people afflicted with these types of diseases.

I too also tested a drug that seemed to work after the first dose. I experienced all of the hope and excitement at the fact I was improving and subsequently all the heartbreak when it didn't. I can only imagine the torment if I had not been allowed to experience my life for myself.

De Niro plays his part to perfection. No one could have done it better. It's as simple as that.

Best War Film Ever Made
28 March 2002
This movie is bar none the best war movie ever made.

Terrence Malick has gifted us with yet another masterpiece of modern film making. His adaptation of James Jones novel is excellent.

The story of the battle for Guadalcanal has been told many times before but never as beautifully or as movingly. The characters are real people faced with incredible obstacles. They reflect on their roles in the war and try to understand the human need, it seems, for bloodshed.

Many have criticized this movie because they did not think the thoughts of the characters were realistic. How are we to know what someone in that situation would be thinking.

The cinematography, as in all Malick films, is top notch, as is the score. Hans Zimmer did some of his best work for this movie.

A must for any movie fan.

Scrubs (2001–2010)
Best New Show
19 March 2002
Surprisingly enough, NBC has come out with a great little show this season. Scrubs has the best of both worlds, it can be side splittingly funny and very touching at the same time.

John C. McGinley is great as the egomaniacal jack ass with a heart: Dr. Cox. All the actors are great in their roles. Even the janitor with a hate for Dr. Dorian.

And to boot, they get most of the medical terminology right. (most that is, they still screw up every now and again)

A must see!
